I have Minox and think they are very good value for money. Mine are 6.5x32mm IF, a model no longer in production, but if I needed or wanted more I would certainly look at their line-up. Site sponsor CameralandNY are a great place to start for at least comparison shopping. They have a great range of makes and models in optics at very competitive prices. (If you decide you like something they have, don't worry about dealing with them - they know where Canada is, they know who the Gunnutz are, and their service is very good.)

If my set of $200 Vortex DiamondBack's are any indication of the rest of the Vortex line, I'd definitely consider them as well. The pair I have were a great value.

I have the 12x50 vortex razor and the vortex viper 8X32 as my compact set. Like them both but the vipers are my fav. I just love those 8X32's.

Hi: I need advice i want to buy some good binos and am looking at spending $1000 or less. Any opinions please. Dan

There are so many choices in the binocular market these days. I sell Celestron product and we have a few nice pieces in the line. Our newest piece is called the Granite, now comes in 8 & 10 x 42 and new or 2012 we will have 10 & 12 x50.
magnesium bodies, great coatings and prisms, and a No Fault Warranty, and will all retail around that $500 price point. Made in China of course. FS

I bought a pair of Minox HG 8x43 BR's off of camerlandny. They were "open-box" and half price. You'd never know they weren't brand new. I'd head over there and see what's on sale.

Gun bug,
I have Canon 10x30 IS (image stabilized) binocs that have become
my favorites. The stabilized image is fantastic and let's your eyes resolve
fine details that are normally out of (handheld) 10x range. They have become my go-to glass. The Canon's are not a small package, but for the house, yard, car etc. they are super!

I've got a set of Leupold pinnacles, 8x42 and haven't let me down yet. Good at low light, great relief. For under 1000 bucks I say they're worth a look!

+1000 for Doug at cameraland.... their demo prices are INSANE and you can sure get a great bang for your buck.

Best of all - since they are open box, and now 'used', the government doesn't charge GST at the border. :) At least they didn't for me!

Minox. I have a pair of 8x32 BR that I use for hunting - great binos.

Again check out Camera Land - they are a site sponsor. Great deals on open stock and Doug stands behind the products he sells.

Zeiss is coming out with a new HD version of their Conquest in the next few weeks that should come in about that price range. Very impressive glass!

Save your money and buy steiner bino's. Almost every member of NATO issues them. used or demo's. They have a wide selection that covers every application. Before 9/11, you could get US military issue steiner factory re-builds for a good price in the US. I bought various models at the time. But Canada got put on "the enemies of the state list or something" and you can't buy them.
Get a steiner catalog from Beretta...new importer in America...and check out the models.
