It is hard to get a double charge on a progressive in the first place. When you pump the handle the case/die moves onto the next stage making it really hard to double charge a case.

That and using a single stage to reload any volume of pistol ammo is a daunting task that is sure to turn a noob off of reloading real quick.

550 is not a auto indexing press like the 650 so you have to turn it your self

Then I would hardly call it a progressive.

You could just as easily do the same thing with a loading block and a powder measure if you aren't paying attention. Notwithstanding automatic vs. manual indexing, there is a lesser probability of double charging a case if you throw the charge and immediately seat the bullet afterward, rather than charging the cases in batches.

Learning to reload on a progressive is fine, just run one case at a time through it until you get the hang of operating it.

well it happened he's still here to talk about it and we will never let him forget it lol the gun did not even blow up(1911) he took a pic of the bench affter he shot and unburnt powder was every where

Well I load a lot of 45acp and while double charging is possible the case will overflow , or is very close ,usally with 2 so how did he 4x charge a 45 case??

I would imagine there is at least one powder out there you could 4x charge with. That or he is full of ####.

I use winchester for the primers, bullseye, unique, or HS6 for the powders.

i really like titegroup for my 9mm, 40 S&W and my 45 acp and i use h110 for my magnums my only complaint is you have to use magnum primers with h110 to get consistency in my experience. also if your new to reloading i recommend 2 manuals and ABC's of reloading and do some reading they give you tons of very important info. also don't be afraid to start with a progressive just be smart run only 1 round through all the stations before starting your next round for the first while to get used to how everything is operating. and when your loading on a progressive i recommend checking your powder and COAL every 10-20 rounds. i may be excessive with my precautions but i have never had a squib load or a over charge so i recommend being to safe if its possible.

now on to this stuff about 4x overcharging a 45 from all my manuals and hogdons website the lowest minimum charge of any powder is 3.5 grns and of all the powders i have used the case will overfill at approximately 10 grns so if you said 3x i would have almost let it slide but even then you wouldn't be able to compress the powder enough to seat the bullet so either he only double charged it or he 4x charged a load that was way to low to be reloading with in the first place!
