Good bulk ammo for .223

RoscoeT - In my opinion, shooting yotes and gophers is not hunting - it's pest control. As such, there is no requirement for expanding bullets. I've never checked with a F&W guy, but I doubt you'd catch flak.

However, shooting FMJ in fields where there is no backstop is borderline irresponsible. I shoot .223 in fields all over, but I'm only using VMAX loaded rounds. There is less chance of ricochet with these than even a .22LR, as they essentially break apart after hitting ANYTHING.

If you're out in the sticks and you KNOW what is well beyond your target, there shouldn't be an issue using FMJ. The issue is safety.

Keep in mind you are 100% responsible for every bullet down the tube ('I didn't know it would richochet' is not a valid defence when you kill someone's cow/dog/child/etc). How you keep safe is your responsibility, so please don't take it lightly.

Not sure what he was talking about, but he's not talking at all now. C'mon ARMike, if you're gonna make snide comments like that, at least provide the proof to back what you're saying, otherwise you're merely shooting blanks... just a lot of noise. The purpose of these forums is to help each other out, save your pot shots for the range.

Prices for 223 have almost doubled in the last while. $9.95 a box for UMC is not bad these days. The WWB at Bass Pro is $12.99 a box. Lebarons has WWB for $10.54 on special. Last time I bought WWB at Lebarons it was $5.85 a box. 223 45gr. For hunting with 223 I would use WWB 45gr. JHP sold at Lebarons for $27.63 a box of 40, this is rated as a varmint hunting bullet.

UMC at bass pro was 4.95 up untill October or something. Before then, everyone was whoring it. It got to the point where they'd only sell you a few thousand at a time. Most guys came in and bought thousands of rounds in one shot.. Price doubled over night.. Cabnet sat fill of .223 for about a few months untill people started coming back and buying it for 10$/box.. Pretty funny.. I dont go in there anymore... No reloading supplies, ammo is pricey now... I guess the only REALLY good thing they have is cheap slugs.. you can find everything else.. guns to ammo.. cheaper from the supporting CGN dealers.
