Good bush holster?

I think your XD 45 is going to give you a false sense of security, and will one day be found in a bear's poop.

Seriously, a Redhawk in 454 costs less than an XD, so what made you make the questionable choice that you have?

at risk of turning this into a bear defense thread, Bartledan, how many bears have you shot, or seen shot, with a pistol of any caliber, or a rifle chambered for a pistol caliber ?

I have a drop down nylon holster for large frame automatics(can't remember the make) sold by Seals action gear that holds my Ruger vaquero perfectly. It collects all sorts of pine needles and dirt and leaves but its fast and very secure and with a stainless single action, who cares? Oh and while sliding down a chute with a goat on my back it got snagged on a rock and saved my ass.

I carry a Ruger SRH .454 Casull crossdraw in a Mernicle flap holster in cowhide. I Sno-seal it and it keeps everything clean and dry.

Its not a false sense of security, but assurance in my abilities. Hand gun is for vancouver island. Small black bears and cougars is what thats for.

I am acompanied by a 12 ga on the mainland.

I going to put more .45, faster on target then a revolver.

Only problem is that I work on the BC coast and leather holster is not a good idea. Since it rains almost everyday.

I find leather isn't all that bad in the bush. I work a ways up North of you in the same conditions (Central Coast) in rivers and also in the bush with you forestry types. I used a simple pancake leather rig for 5 years before I got the Mernickle and it held up fine....it got wet a lot of days in the bush day but I dried out in the dry room (or at home if I forgot). It actually held up well, not ideal but no problems.
Cheers
