rcbs are very good. i prefer mitutoyo but the cost cant be justified unless you are a gear whore who really appreciates quality or are a Ftr kind of OCD personality.

mastercraft wre garbage. bang for buck is the RCBS stainless steel dial. Got mine a few yeats back at Basspro for 30.

It only matters if good enough is not good enough..

I picked up a set from Princess Auto and had'em for 3 year's till one of the guys at work put them in coolant. But the Princess Auto guarantee replaced them for free.

I went to CT yesterday after the gun show and looked at the three calipers they sell. A plastic one, for 6 bucks. No idea how to read it. Then the metal vernier for 20 bucks. Even harder to read. No thanks. Then the digital one. By far the best choice, but 40 bucks. I went back and forth in my head a few times and then said "eff it".

To my surprise, it rang up at 20 bucks. The receipt showed 50 percent off. This was not advertised and the sale price was not listed on the product hanger.

So far, it works great. Better than expected, and cheaper than any of the ones I was looking at on Amazon. If it breaks I can just swing down to CT.

My CT calipers s#!t the bed. They won't hold a reading. Numbers blink up and down at random. I ended up getting a set of Pro-Point calipers from Princess Auto on sale. They seem much more solid than the CT junk. I think I paid $20 or so on sale. For more precise needs I have my grandfathers old Starrett micrometer. It still has the original receipt.

I use digital calipers from Frankford Arsenal. They are hard on batteries as well, but I found a solution. They take size 357 watch batteries which I can buy for about $3.50 at Walmart or I can get a pack of 7 batteries for $1.00 at the local Dollar General store.

It's like Christmas in April. I just found a rcbs dial caliper in a box with some old tools I haven't used in 10 years... Dont remember buying one but it looks new in its original packaging with a price tag saying 54.99 on it lol.

I did the same, works out well, but I try to always power off manually when I'm done
