I was in the market for a new spotting scope, and I decided on the Kowa TSN 883. I checked all of my regular sources, including CameralandNY, who often has the lowest prices, and the prices were all quite similar. Then while searching the internet, I discovered a store in Ontario called Pelee Wings, that is selling the Kowa TSN 883 body for $310 less than most other places, the eyepiece was $55 less, and the padded case was $60 less, for a total of $425 less. Given that the store is in Canada, there will be no exchange rate differences, or exchange fees, and the shipping will likely be slightly less, the cost savings will increase by a bit more. Pelee Wings has very good prices on many other optics as well, but their prices on Kowa are much better than I could find elsewhere. Just so you know, they specialize in bird watching optics, so they don't list riflescopes.

Pelee Wings is about 25 miles from me. Lots of ORA shooters buy their spotting scopes there. Huge selection of spotting scopes and you can set two or three up side by side and compare them.

Bird watchers spent big bucks on spotting scopes and binos. It doesn't hurt that they are located just outside of Point Pelee National Park.

Maybe there is a bird watching forum similar to Gun Nutz where they have an EE section for used optics. Just someone looking to upgrade? Pretty tough to wear out a spotting scope by looking through it.

Pelee Wings has a fantastic selection and excellent prices. If you shop there in person they can and will allow you to compare numerous competitive models side by side, even have a resolution target set up across the road.

Be aware that, unless they have changed their policy, they are closed for most of the winter months, reopening in the spring.

I have a nice Kowa TSN-661 with the angled eyepiece. This is a "compact" spotting scope series aimed primarily at the high power shooter market. Supposed to be the best of both worlds, of bigger optics and a more packable size. Great choice for rifle shooters with tons of stuff in tow for range use.
Hence the mid range objective size.

Dare to dream. Having used a Kowa spotter extensively I can say that you cannot upgrade from there.

Zeiss makes a nice spotter as does Leica and a few others. I have a Kowa TSN-1, I find it works great for what I use it for and have no need to upgrade. However if I was into bird watching and wanted to use the spotter with a camera attached, and I has a ####e load of money to piss away......

There are several good spotting scopes on the market, but after doing much research, I didn't find any that I would consider to be an upgrade on the Kowa TSN 883.
