Looking to pick up a bipod for my savage mark II- G

Im very open to buying online/ebay.

Who recommends what? Please feel free to accompany your post with a link to an auction on ebay or a store link.

You can buy a harris style bipods made for airsoft, from the right place they can be had for $50 shipped and work just as fine as "name brand" bipods. I had one on my Mark II "G" for awhile but sold it to a friend.

I have two chinese clones and two of the real ones. The real one's have heavier springs and this helps keep them from wobbling about as much, and the mechanism that clamps onto the swivel stud is straight and solid, the clones are flimsier and clamp on crooked. Also, the rubber padding on the clones is glued on with some soft sticky substance like two sided tape adhesive that never hardens. The rubber shifts in position. If you can buy a used Harris for $75 or less I would say you are getting great value for the difference between that and a clone that might cost you $40-$50 by time its in your hands. I'm not saying the clones are junk, they are usable, but they are inferior.

If I buy a Harris Rifle Bipod 1A2 BR, i dont need anything additional to attach it to the rifle right? or do i need some sort of adapter?

My BR model attaches to a swivel stud, which is the standard way Harris bipods attach. Does your rifle have the stud for a detachable swivel?

Mark II "G" comes standard with swivel studs....

SOME might have lighter springs but the one I sold have VERY heavy springs that took allot of force to get the legs down.

you don't want anything that attaches to the barrel itself or the gas system- if you impact the ground in any way, it's going to shift the poi- attaching to one of the sling studs is FAR superior- that's what's wrong with the factory issue/original issue bipod for the m14

Harris are the best but for a .22LR you can get away with a lesser brand. Shooters Choice are found in many stores and online there are several "Harris Style" bipods sold from retailers in HK and the PRC. If you are using much more than a .223 though I recommend spending the extra cash on day one and getting a genuine Harris.

I have a Harris and a Shooter's Ridge bipod on my rimfires...they have both been very good with the Harris being a little better in quality.

How would any of these even mount? Doesnt look like any of them have an attachment for swivel's.

I own the knock-off, and the true Harris. There is no comparison. It's obvious there's a lack of QC for the knock-off. The knock-off is crooked everywhere.

Having said that, it does the job perfectly for my own little Mk II GL. It's not like there's a risk of the Savage snapping the legs off with recoil. :p:eek::D

Oh crap. It is too late. I just got my bipod (sku.18296) from dealextreme, and I am very disappointed. There is no way I can mount it on my rimfire rifle. Guess I will leave this bipod in a shoe box forever..

I can only suggest you remove the mounting bolt from the bipod and stick the swivel stud through it instead, and thread that back into the stock. I did that with one on an aluminum stock that is threaded for the swivel stud. On a wood stock you'd need to probably buy a longer screw stud to ensure you have enough screw going into the stock so it doesnt pull out and damage the wood.

I'm not really sure how that bipod was meant to mount, since the mounting stud it comes with threads into both the bipod and the plate that comes with it. When both ends are threaded, the distance between them never closes, and thus it never tightens down. Any idea on how that was meant to work?
