good / cheap bullet for long range shooting .308?

500 count boxes of 155gr smk can be found for a good price for a great bullet get the 2156 or 2155 are the older version so make sure you don't over pay. I will not pay 50$ for a box of fmj bulk hornady and I encourage people to not pay these ridiculous prices a balance will be found but people paying 400$ for a jug of varget is nuts and I hope to hell it's not the new normal or I will be shooting a lot less.

I like the A-max for a reasonably priced paper puncher. I also have been stock piling the 175gr nosler custom competition. They are a great performer as well with a reasonable price. Like you, I want to have a cheaper "gong" round so I have started to work with the 150 FMJ hornady. I would never pay more than $35 per 100 for those though....

Any good opinion/experience on Speer bullets 165gr BTSP? Ballistic coeff is 0.52, They're 37$ for 100, not so expensive...

Match bullets are not 'cheap".

I have loaded the Hornady BTSP in 165 and found it to very accurate. But if I wanted best accuracy I would go with a match bullet.

The only good deal I have found is the box of 1000 Lapua bullets. Second best good deal is the Nosler Match.

It takes some load development to get a good load, so you want to settle on one bullet and stick with it. otherwise you will use up the barrel too fast.

You are wasting money on match bullets unless you have a uniform batch of brass. Either buy it all new or buy once fired brass all from the same lot #.

Just throwing it out there.....check out the speer 165gr bt. Even if you don't like it, you've spent less than $40.00 for a hundred. I find them to be quite accurate, and it will open nicely at long range. Not being one of the fashionable bullets, it seems to sit on shelves in stores, but I don't think animals or paper can tell the difference.

I did see those, a bit cheaper: http://www.speer-bullets.com/ballistics/detail.aspx?id=93 . A little less bal coefficient... Have fun at the range ;) Feel free to make a litle review after you shooting sesion!

The claimed Ballistic Coefficient is over exaggerated by Speer.
Speer claims .534 but a ballistics guy did a detailed analysis and came up with a .480 which is comparable to most other 168 gr BTHP match on the market.

Once it warms up a bit, I'm going to run up a load using OCW.
