Hi folks, not very knowledgeable about shotguns in general so here goes: Had a chance to hunt a few quails with a friends Weatherby semi .20 gauge polymer gun last fall and REALLY enjoyed it. I also have a 13 yr old that might enjoy getting into some clay or real hunting.

Does anyone know other similar makes and or good places to seek these out?

Any help would be appreciated, thx

I had a Beretta AL391 urika 2 Gold and a Benelli M2 in 20 gauge. Both were excellent guns. Only reason I sold them was that I wasn't using either enough!

Remington 1100.
There is a Weatherby 20g in the ee, but do not recall if it is a semi or a pump right now.

New - A400 20ga xcel
Used - 391 sporting

The sporting models swing way better and are plenty light for full day in the field.

Franchi, looks and feels like a benelli. Made by benelli, about half the price.
My 13 year old son uses a 20g franchi youth model for hunting and sporting clays. My 10 year old son has also shot sporting clays with it as well.

I have the same as your friend weatherby sa08 synthetic and I love it ! Secret ? It fits me great !

After initial break in it always ejects perfecty, also in the booklet it says no target load below a certain fps but I load it with low powered shells and it works 100%

Guess there's a lot of fancier shotgun though, so my tip is to try a few :)

I’m close to settling on an M2 in 20ga as my all purpose hunting semi. I’ve owned a bunch in 12ga and really like them. I want something lighter for grouse that I can still use on turkey and small water ducks. A 20ga M2 with a 24” or 26” barrel handles/shoots wonderfully. I can also get a shorter stock for when my daughters/wife would like to shoot/hunt.

The Weatherby SA-08 20ga is a great little gun. We really like it - and after a few dozen mixed rounds there was no need to change the piston for light/heavy shells. Does not miss a beat.

I'd stay away from the Armsan A620, Mushberg SA20 and the likes of similar designs although some sellers on here advertise them like "Same gun as Weatherby" or "Same gun as big brand names... but hundreds of $ cheaper". IMO salesman BS!

I had a gorgeous 20GA Browning Auto 5 for a while, shooting it alongside a Weatherby SA-08 was no comparison. I'd take the Weatherby any day of the week. They're very soft shooting and seemed to fit me quite well.

I have a Weatherby SA-08, wood stocked. I suspect it was made by a Turkish company, but it works fine. I bought one each, 12 and 20, at WSS in Regina one Sunday afternoon. Just over $1200 with tax. Same day, Cabela's had them at approx. $850 each. I had one each in synthetic prior, and sold them after I bought the woodies.

As you can see from all of the replies, suggestions and recommendations are all over the place. Fact is that it's difficult to go wrong with any of the better name newer semi's, I'd stay away from the older Browning Double Auto's, B2000's and that sort of thing, the newer designs are leaps and bounds ahead of them. The Sa-08 is probably one of the few Turkish made semi's I'd have any faith in, I have one in 12 gauge and it's been flawless.
I'd try to shoot a few different types before making a decision and then get the one that fits and feels the best.

Weatherby Sa08 20 gauge. About 900 bucks new, comes with shims and interchangeable chokes. My son used it for a number of seasons without a hickup. Shoot skeet with it often, very light, points well but IMO polymer trigger guard made it look cheap as walnut lumber.

I have an Ithaca XL900 long recoil gun. Light as a feather, and goes "Boom" every single time I pull the trigger, no matter which ammo or how cold it is. But it's well over 40 years old.
