The last few years have been bad for getting out calling, other interests have cut into the time. Oh well, better now than never. This fall I can get out more and today went pretty good. As usual, some got away. Rifle was my Kimber varmint in 22/250, Leupold 4.5-14 LR with B&C, and 52 grain Berger Varmint Match. Swaro rangefinder.

Nice work, congrats on a great day! I would really like to do that sometime. Numbers seem to be improving around here so maybe Ill have some luck sooner or later!

At what range Dogleg? Nice rifle and caliber!

EDIT: what pelt damage do you see with the bergers at Impact speeds?

I'm setting up for 200 yards, but plans don't always work out. One the other day hung up at 408 so I shot it there, and there was another today that changed his mind and started chasing mice instead. He was 348 I think, mid 3s anyway. The first one this morning was maybe twenty and a headshot because he found the one way in that would drop him right out of sight until powder-burn range.

Head, shoulder, broadside and frontal chest shots typically give a perfect pelt, gutshots often blow it wide open. A few of us compared notes over several hundred coyotes awhile back and have decided that the Berger Varmint Match is as good as it gets for saving pelts.

I am shooting a 222 that doesn't like long bullets, thanks for the info!

If I can't save the pelt, I won't shoot it. The skinning shed needs a job lol.

The faster .224 rifle would be for very heavy for caliber bullets to fill the gap between the 243 and the triple deuce. I use the 222 for pelts, want a fast 224 caliber for when it doesn't matter.

nice haul, im really jealous, the area im chasing yotes in is still heavily leafed, few more weeks and it should be good
cant seem to find a farmer with a yote problem, though according to Wednesday news there are plenty in that area

Got some more today. Didn't get off to a roaring start; woke up at 2.30 and then fell back asleep until 7:00. Ooops. Anyway, left the house at 7:01 practically tearing the door off the hinges. Despite loosing the best hour of the day to travelling we did luck into a few.

You're definitely in a dog rich area. The bounties a couple years ago reduced the numbers here considerably but they are rebounding back quickly since the cancellation of the bounty. What do you use for calling and what sounds do you typically use? I use both mouth blown and e-caller as does my hunting partner but to date I have only brought in one coyote to the call. Obviously my technique needs some improving in figuring out which sounds to use, when and for how long?
