good deal or not on the trade im offered

I have a sako AIII 7mm rem mag in a McMillan stock. A guy wants to trade me a marlin 1895G 45-70 and $920 for my gun and the optilock scope mounts. No scope. He says the marlins fit and finish is excellent and it cycles great. I've always wanted a lever action. I plan to reload for it.

What should I look for with the remlins. Also is this a good deal or not so much. I have a sako 85 7mm rem mag that I use and the sako AIII just sits in safe
 
well do you have the 920$ plus the price of a new 1895 in to your sako .if you have less in to your gun then the other two combined then it would be a great deal .if you have a lot more then 920$ plus the price of a new 1895 .in your sako then it would not be a good deal for you .so what you got to do is look up the price of a new 1895 then add 920$ to it and see if the amount is greater then the amount you have in your sako or less .D
 
The gun was given to me so the only money I have into it is bedding the stock. It was my first gun I shot a big game animal with. But I don't use it and I'd rather let someone else enjoy her and I can buy myself a new shotgun lol
 
Sounds like you may have some sentimental attachment to the SAKO.....think long and hard before selling it as once it is gone , you may never be able to get it back ; lots of folks have sold firearms , then regretted it later , I am one of them.....Use Caution as money can be replaced , sentimental value cannot......

This. Except that my first rifle was stolen. How I wish I could have it back. Many years later I bought one just like it - but it wasn't the same.

The only way these deals work out 100% in both parties favour is a hands on deal.
Mail swap unless the traders have a good mutual respect for one another can often lead
to great disappointments.

Just saying.........but fill yer bewts.
 
Is it a RemLin or is that an assumption.
Fit and finish of recent Marlins left something that I did not see as desirable.
When will you get a chance to see the 45-70? or are each of you trying to come to an agreement and then each will ship?
 
I just sold a pre Remington 1895CB for $1100. For a standard G the $600 is all you could hope for. Me personally I wouldn't go for it. The Sako and 7mag is too good a combination.

...a deal like that has to be eyeball-to-eyeball for me, too much at stake ...and i'd be awfully slow about letting go of that SAKO

Like Looky has advised it should be a "hands on" eye ball to eye ball deal so you each can see exactly what your getting in rifles, then follow what your "gut" is telling you. We have all sold guns and regretted it, try not to join the club.
 
I think it's not really about a difference in price but rather what value you place on each.

I have a Sako AV I'm going to be trading/selling shortly. Nothing wrong with the rifle, I just prefer a different style of gun.
 
I'm getting to the point now, that if I'm not using it, it can be sold. I plan on starting to sell one gun at it's actual value per month to aid my income until I get the old age pension.
OP, I'd say do the swap if you are not using it and you think you will use the new toy and have fun with the extra money.
