Well I have a sportered enfield that was already drilled for a scope mount and figured might as well put one on for the hell of it. What is a decent scope that won't make me broke? The distance is not that great so something good for around 300-500 yards would do fine. Any sugestions?

Bushnell Banner or Trophy, or Tasco Pronghorn would do you fine, if you're on a budget.

I think 300-500 is real far for a 303 if you're going to be using it for hunting. I put either 4x or 3-9 on mine, but I consider the 303 to be a 300 yard maximum hunting rifle, and even then, only if it's got a full length barrel. For a No5 or something with a chopped barrel, I wouldn't shoot game past 200 yards unless I really had to.

well i might of overstated the range. 300 yards is fine, my range only goes to about 350-400 yards. I was looking at the Nikon ones, I know Nikon makes good optics. I like using iron sights but today i too my dads little .222 out and i liked using a scope. If i get my No.4 i might put a scope on the one i have now, since i am better with the No.4 sights anyways.

We put a synthetic stock set and a Bushnell Trophy 3-9 on my friends rifle. Then I worked up a hand load with the 150 grain Hornady bullet and it will cloverleaf 3 shots at 100 yards. He's had this set-up for years and he loves it.

I'd also go with a classic Weaver K series. K2.5, K3, K4, K6. One of my No.4s has a Weaver Micro-Trac 1.5-4.5x on it, but a fixed power at 4x is enough for 300 yards, and a 6x is more than enough. If you find one of the old made in U.S.A. steel tube examples in good serviceable condition (which isn't hard, they are tough and well-made) it will be good value.
