Can someone with good command of translation show the "Range Agreement" in English? J. has referred to this but not Quoted it. This has been debated the same way in another thread (or more) RE the Steel jacket v. Steel core. It's hard to accept that a CFO is this ignorant, so there may be some un-stated circumstance like possible sparks causing fire??

CFOs ignorant of science? say it aint so.

Just look at the incoherent rules the CFOs have for shooting steel targets.

Ontario - Must be hung at angle, minimum 10 degrees, can not be rigid. Must be Shrouded.
BC Must be hung at angle Minimum 20 degrees. Can be rigid.
Alberta - Hang anything not zero, no need for shroud. Can be rigid.

The CFOs literally get together every year and compare notes about 'science'.

Few years back an Ontario range allegedly had a round leave the property and the CFOs proposed solution was to ban that particular make and model from the range...

Yes the CFOs are ignorant of basic science. In most provinces, they are police officers, not physicists or engineers. In some provinces, where the CFO is not a police officer, they are travel agents or other non action job type folks who may or may not know a thing about firearms. And don't forget that the Commissioner of Firearms, Commissioner Brenda Lucki, admitted under oath that she doesn't even know Canada's gun laws.

Whats hard for me to accept, is that in 2022, after all we have seen, that there are gun owners who can't accept that the Canadian Firearms Program is utterly incompetent.

Outside of 'shotgun only' zones, Nothing in the Ontario regs prohibit hunting with a handgun either, as long as it is the right type of ammunition. Also, nothing in the hunting regs nor the Criminal Code prohibit hunting or handling firearms while under the influence of alcohol or drugs either.

And while the hunting regs say you can't shoot from a car, nothing in law says you can't target shoot from a moving vehicle.

Contrary to popular belief, the government hasn't quiet banned every bad idea, just yet.

Oh I'm sure that $65 plate and hanger are not exactly AR500, which is why I mentioned it being from Cabelas.

Don't know the exact round my friend used but should have been some kind of hunting projectile. Most certainly not anything steel core. The holes through the plate were perfectly round and appear to be almost 30 caliber. I initially thought someone had shot some steel core 762x39 into the plate. Kinetic energy is a hell of a thing.

Fairly certain most provinces prohibit such ... which is kinda silly cause you can't take a restricted firearm into the bush anyway. So the hunting regs prohibit something that is already prohibited by federal law. No-one ever said the law was smart.

AR 500 steel targets does have a velocity / energy rating. So your friend was using a target not rated for his caliber, or cabelas using cheap steel. I get my steel targets from a machinest in AB.

Yep. Steel doesn’t have the proper rating. We had 1/4” plates of regular steel for out 22lr’s and I shot three 30-30 100 gr short jackets at one. My group was nice but bullets put three perfect hole in it. Cabelas plates aren’t rated for high power. 8m/m Lebel Will also pierce 1/2” regular plate. That was a regular hunting round. Ar 500!is needed or better for your average hunting rifle.

I bought a 22 spinner from PA. First round at 25 yards bent it sideways and left a nice crater.

I also had a second plate that is proper AR500 and his shots only slightly divoted that plate so for sure the Cabelas plates are lower quality. Still, the KE in that 7WSM is pretty impressive.

Would you like to share your AB source for plates? I'd be interested in a few more. ;)
