I use the stuff that CTC sells to protect floors from furniture legs. One of the packages has several rectangular sheets of it. I bent up a couple of pieces of aluminum sheet and attached the felt to these, then fitted them over the vise jaws. Works great, and no marring at all.

My source was an old gunsmith friend who had a huge piece of this felt 45 years ago... Today I would try sourcing from a saddle maker...

Good idea, thank you. And I'm keeping the next pair of felt boot liners I wear out.
