Good Holsters For Ruger 22/45

A Friend of mine is giving me a Ruger 22/45 Lite (that white gold finish one, to me it looks regular brushed stainless colour though) once i get my RPAL in the mail and i was wondering what a good holster would be for it?

Hip Holster? Drop Leg? Shoulder?

Leather? Kydex/Molded Plastic? Nylon ?

Any Suggestions would be awesome

Cant wait for hours of plinking with it on the pistol range!

For range use a hip holster of some sort would be typical. A good belt is pretty nice but not necessary for basic range use.
I've heard that some ranges don't like shoulder holsters but that's not an issue at our range.

You can do a search online for holsters made specifically for that model or just find something that happens to fit.
There are lots of options out there but I'd imagine something made for a 1911 that's not molded too tight would work.

I am wondering if i would just be safe with one of those adjustable universal holsters. Thankfully the 22/45 does have a 1911 grip shape so you are correct that maybe finding a loose 1911 holster may work.

I agree on the hip holster as well. Just need to decide on the material choice.

Most of the fit is in the barrel ,receiver and trigger guard but I'm sure someone with a 22/45 will be along with some good suggestions.

A cheap uncle mike's nylon style holster would work fine and they have fit guides that list the different guns that fit. They are a one size fits many type holster but still better then tucking it in your belt!

If your range is fine with a shoulder holster I bet a USGI M3 or M7 holster would work.
The 1916 design for the 1911 would probably work as well.

What's the barrel length on the gun your buddy's giving you?

I use a leather 1911 holster with an open bottom (ninja style cut I think they call it). It works really well and retention is good. I'll post a pic when I get home toight.

I bought the Black Dog Machine kydex holster and it is crappy. Don't waste your $ on it.

Great holster, fits all the MK series, is ambi, works with optics, and cheap. As for quality I would say good, the barrel may rattle a little depending on the type ie bull or the pencil one. Definitely good quality on par with 5.11 holsters and the low end bladetec. 200% better than fobus crap.

I love mine, just waiting on my G-Code adapters to run it with my belt. One belt to rule them all lol

Forget the shoulder or other oddball holsters. Most of the oddballs hold the gun at some sort of position where it's all but impossible not to sweep the firing line and half the world. Stick to a simple strong side holster of some sort.

For simply a place to park the gun where you're not drawing and shooting on the clock I'm going to recommend the cheap and VERY versatile Uncle Mike's #18 soft holster. It is spec'ed to hold an N frame S&W revolver. But it has turned out to hold every handgun I have with excellent stability and security while walking around the range between stages at matches. The Ruger 22/45 is one of those guns.
