Hey a friend of mine wants to get a 223 rifle, semi automatic and something that can preferably use the LAR 10 rnd mags and is left handed. He likes my keltec but i explained it has no left side ejection. I was thinking of suggesting just getting an AR lower and an upper with left side ejection so he doesn't have brass flying into his face but I'm having problems finding LH AR uppers online.

Anyone have any suggestions ? he isn't worried about restricted vs not as this just to have fun at the range (so no hunting). Also I don't think he'll bite if it's some 3k+ specialty rifle.

An ACR is completely ambidextrous, but it is a bit pricy. You can probably get a used one for under $2500 if you have a look.

Mag release and bolt release are ambi, and the charging handle can be swapped to either side. In terms of an ambi rifle, I don't think it can be beat. Takes AR mags.

I have right handed ARs. Get an ambi safety, ambi mag release, and a new charging handle. Never had brass in the face, although they do hit my arm. I wear a long-sleeved shirt when using it. Just make sure the upper has the brass knocker, no slab-sides for leftys!

Arms East can get Stag left-handed uppers.

The only rifle I've ever had trouble shooting lefty was the Tavor, and a simple brass catcher fixes it quickly. As long as it has a brass deflector, everything else has been fine. AR, SL8, ACR, KelTec, Swiss, Mini-14, CX4, JR Carbine and probably a few others I've forgotten have never given any sort of trouble shooting from the left side.

Dont waste the money on a lefty gun the only thing he will have issues with is bullpups. I am a lefty and shoot all righty guns, they are cheaper, more available, parts are cheaper and more available.

Robinson Arms XCR-L that I got to shoot few weeks ago was extremely left hand friendly.

Brass ejects generally directly to the right and a bit forward and really kicks them out far.

VERY left hand friendly.

Most modern production AR's have a brass deflector for this exact purpose among others.

I know many people in the forces who shoot the C7/C8 left handed with no issues whatsoever.

So I would suggest a regular old AR15 variant of some kind as long as the restricted ###ness doesn't bother you.

Another vote for the XCR. I am a very dominant lefty and love my XCR! All the controls are ambi and it throws the brass way out, so no worries there either.
Having said all that, I also have a Daniel Defense M4 V5 for range days and after shooting it for a couple minutes, it is no big deal for a lefty to use either so you don't really need to get too hung up on a"lefty" gun.

This is good advise, bought the BADASS ambi safety. Any suggestions on ambi mag release and charging handle?

The AR15 is perfectly ambidextrous as originally designed. I've been shooting them for more than 20 years and never had an issue. Was your buddy breast fed too long or what? It is a right handed world, the sooner he gets used that the better. I have never owned a single left handed firearm except for a flintlock for obvious reasons. Resale value of a left handed gun will be zilch.

There is so much wrong with this post I went and listened to a Nickelback song to compensate for it.

Another vote for the XCR. The original in full ambi designs. Ejection is very forward right. The ergonomics are totally awesome. Ambi safety, ambi mag release, ambi bolt catch/release. Also faster than AR15 due to these ergonomic features and the left side charging handle.

I've just had mine for about a month and half. Having so much fun I've blown through 600+ rounds already! Maybe it's too efficient a design?
