As already suggested, you have two rifles in cartridges capable of harvesting game at long range (your stated 500 yards), depending on the game you are targeting.
Find yourself some good loads with high BC bullets(i.e. 150 and 180 gr AccuBonds, 150 and 190 gr LR AccuBonds, etc.) for these two rifles that will maintain their velocities and energies at the longer distances, flatten trajectories and resist the wind drift.
Invest the money in quality optics. The VX-3 4.5-14x40 mentioned above, with either the B&C reticle or CDS dial will work very well, while keeping your hunting rifle, light and trim for packing all day afield, and will be less likely to get knocked than a scope with a larger objective lense, or wanting to shift in the rings as a heavier scope will under recoil.
Been reading some very good reviews of the VX-5 scopes that have me intrigued.
The Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44 with their BRH reticle is also a great scope. Light, trim and excellent glass.
All that being said, if you are just wanting to get another, new rifle...by all means, go for it!
Just determine what you are wanting to hunt, the required energy and sectional density needed to cleanly harvest that animal, even if your bullet placement is a little less than ideal, and pick the cartridge/caliber that will deliver those objectives, get a quality scope to put on it, practice lots with it at all ranges anticipated, from a variety of field shooting positions, and have fun!!!
