Good news for 303 fans

If you just want to plink, there are some very affordable options. 125gr cast / powder coated bullets are cheap cheap. Run a small charge of bulky pistol powder for max fun w minimum cost.

Little local(ish) store had very little ammo, and the cheapest of any variety or caliber was $47/20 box.

That right there is the reason a plinker 303 bullet is needed. Min $47/box is also the reason for the new precious metal primerisium.

This is it in a nutshell.

We can pizz away about a couple of dollars difference between local shops in our areas, but when shipping/taxes are applied???????

For those that don't reload, which I believe is the case with most milsurp shooters who only got into it because of the cheap ammo that was once available, ammunition is prohibitively expensive. More now, even when factoring in modern wage scales, than I can remember in over 50 years. Same goes for reloading components.

I definitely agree, cheap plinking or even good quality FMJ ammunition for matches for many surplus military rifles would be nice to have access to.

I sorely miss the exposed lead base bullets that were once the norm, so they would properly obturate into the varying diameter grooves in the bores of mass production military grade rifles under stressful conditions with lowered quality parameters.

Companies such as GRAF/PRIVI have been working hard to keep some of these old warhorses working as intended by suppling components and loaded ammunition for them.

Profitability for such items isn't exactly great and likely right on minimal to make it worth the effort and expense.

I still like your idea of reloading with 7.62 Russian bullets and powder...surely that's cheaper?

It's great if the rifle you're shooting them through has a tight bore and if the Soviet block bullets have exposed lead bases.

I've run across Soviet block bullets for their Mosin types with different weights as well as flat base, boat tail, exposed and enclosed bases in both types.

The enclosed flat base bullets shoot better in Lee Enfields than the enclosed boat tails for the most part and the exposed lead base bullets of both configurations shoot better.

Just got an E-Mail from Campro , they are working on a 303 british 180gr. bullet. They have no date when they will be available.

I got the following reply from CamPro

Thank you for reaching us and for your interest in our products.Unfortunately our previous .311'' 180gr RN SP bullets have been discontinued. However, we plan to offer a new Spitzer (flat based) 303 British bullet, first it won't be a SP but we plan to offer both options later on. The project is already on the drawing desk, but it is not ready. It's hard to say a release date at this point, as releasing a new bullet is a lot of work and testing, but I can surely keep you updated once it is ready.

Thank you,

Arnaud Patoine-Danylo, ing. Project manager

Interesting to hear.

Luckily I just found a source of Speer 150gr Hot Core bullets at a really good price. :)

The email doesn't specify the weight of the new bullet. I cut and pasted the entire email above.

BUMP Anyone have any more news on CamPro's new 303 bullets. I'm now out of the CamPro and have opened up the Speer I bought before. I miss the old 500 round bags of cheap plinking bullets

After inquiring as to any plans to release a flat based 174 grain .311 I was somewhat surprised to find out that CamPro is working on development of exactly that! There is no release date yet, but the bullet is under development. Imagine that, a Canadian made 303 bullet - I'd predict they'll sell a few.
Is this a thing yet?

Same, on all accounts.
Relative to the .303 BR bullet search does anyone have a lead on cast in the 180 gr range? Bullet Barn now out of business had excellent 180 gr double lube groove and gas check base cast bullets. Have not been able to find anything lately.

Nope. Sorry, but the cupboards appear to be bare.

If you can find them, .318 bullets shoot quite accurately from 303 Brit rifles with oversize or worn bores.

We used to load .311-312 and later .310 diameter bullets through worn Krag and Springfield 03 bores to get acceptable accuracy out of them, less than three inches at 100yds, with issue sights.

I wrote to Campro a few days ago and they just answered me. They are still working on the .303 project, but no date when the bullets will be available so better find another alternative for now. Same thing they told me a year ago!
