Good news in NB

That's the way it should be , now you can't even target shoot on your own property in N.B. without a hunting license of some type ; such a foolish regulation , but I can't remember when it came into effect in N.B. , or under what government/Premier ?
 
Well the not being able to target shoot without a permit from Natural Resources has existed since 1985 and most likely earlier.

I think NS is a bit better but can't remember.

Is this the lifting of caliber restrictions?

Liberal is definitely worse but, I think that it’s the more uniform make up of society than the brand of government.
 
So , is there any word if the caliber restrictions for varmint and small games licenses has actually been lifted , and put into law ; or are they still working on it . The Spring session of the House has ended , so did this change actually get all the way through the process ? For a fairly small change , it seems to have taken a long time .
 
I got an email back from Mike Holland:

"The amendment to the regulation has made it through committee and is currently at the 28 day public posting. Things look promising to have this in place sometime this summer."

Can anyone here explain what the public posting is?

Not totaly sure , but I suspect that he may be referring to the publishing of the change in The Royal Gazette ( Queen's Printer ) ; so it sounds like a done deal . Thanks for the post and update .

I got another email back explaining that "All regulation changes are required to be posted for 28 days to give the public the opportunity to provide feedback."

The two proposed changes (one to the hunting regs, another to the trapping regs) can be found here https://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/corporate/public_review_ofdraftregulations. html

Feedback can be sent to Natural Resources and Energy Development, but must be sent by the 6th of July.

This will be a good change for NB'ers.

I can remember getting that permit to take my rifle to the range to sight it in before deer season. It was a pain & to be honest, accomplished nothing other than prevent law abiding folks from plinking.

I've seen some posts on facebook that this change has actually gone through! Big news for those of us in NB
