Good non restricted "AR" type rifle.

ATRS modern spotter and the MDI SLR which are the only two AR NR black rifles on the market. The XCR and 180’s are not AT type black rifles, nice rifles but not AR type.

Well technically the 180 is an AR type, just not an AR-15 type. The AR180 is still an Armalite Rifle designed by Stoner.
I know what you mean though, I'm just nit-picking :p

Getting tired of these what NR AR option threads, going to have to add them to the bear defense and shooting into space categories if we get many more. Be nice if guys did a little reading through the threads before asking the same question again in a new thread.

Is the AR 15 type anygood for Bear Defense?
Would it be better to shoot him in the chest? Or the face ?
Lol

Depends on whether the bear is in outer space or not. If he is in outer space a chest shot to deflate him is your only hope, but only if you are running a chrome lined barrel and the AR style rifle has forward assist. Otherwise you are screwed.

I agree that the 180 is technically an AR but as you put it not an AR15 but is closer to it then say an XCR. Also the new crop of NR AR10’s is growing....the 180 and S10 are fine examples.

A stickied list of all the NR options would help to solve that. But it appears there's too many tin foil hat wearers here to approve something of the sort.

At least now we have a long list of non restricted rifles to pick from. Just set your price limit and go get your rifle.

This^^^

Worst case scenario you sell it if you don't like it.
Best thing to do is find people in your area that already own one and ask to try it before you decide, or if you have a range that has rental guns go try them there first.

I try not to put on more than one layer of tin foil but I do agree to a certain extent that a list may not be the best thing. Although all anyone has to do is browse this public forum for a couple hours to make their own list.
Rather than a sticky people could just do a little research of their own and also read the first couple pages of the black rifle forum before posting a new thread asking the same question that has been answered already.
I would hope that anyone who truly is interested in firearms would spend their first few days browsing the threads before just posting asking to be spoon fed other people's opinions.

Hard to argue that if you want a true AR-15/AR-10 style rifle, especially if you throw in the lightweight requirement.

Exactly and this list will grow at the fear of the government. It demonstrates that their are far to many brilliant minds out there so ingenuity will always wins out.

In order to be non-restricted, the lower needs to reject a standard AR upper.

The non-restricted rifles that take AR parts (barrels, triggers, hand guard, stock, grip...etc.) are:

Macabee SLR (223) - 1,000 CAD (only the lower and upper)

WK-180C (223) - 1,200 CAD

ATRS modern varmint (223) - Price starts at 3,300 CAD

ATRS modern hunter (308) - Price starts at 3,600 CAD

Stag-10 (308 or 6.5) - 2,400 CAD

BCL 102 (308) - 1,750 CAD

Lookup their pictures and reviews online, most of these are in high demand, hence you need to pre-order and wait a couple of months for your turn.

/u/thehuntinggearguy has a website where he reviews the majority of the guns available at the Canadian market.

As well as calibre magazine

What does the thread title say?? "Good non restricted AR type rifle". Tell how a Valmet, a Swiss, an XCR, or any of
the bullpup garbage
is anywhere close to an "Ar type rifle"??

Oh don't get me wrong, I love my AR's and they won't be going anywhere, but the non res SLR is an excellent alternative.
bullpup garbage-like tavor that idf uses?you gotta go back on the meds

This one turned out alright. I had no problems with my receivers at all. I plan to build as many of these receiver sets as I can get my hands on. Whole lot of fun, wish I had the money to grab an ATRS set too when they were available. Have to watch the EE.

Well just finished another range day with my MDI SLR without a hiccup. So far 800 rounds through the Maple Ridge Wylde barrel with Federal American Eagle .233 55gn 3245fps being the most accurate. Still no cleaning of the receivers and bolt carrier except for the barrel break in cleaning. The receiver bolt remains tight without any of the problems experienced by others.

Just purchased another upper to add another barrel to the set of this very fine NR black rifle. My advice is that if a Canadian hunter wants a black AR ergonomic style rifle this is a good choice. As a long time black rifle owner I will fully endorse this product.

Good to hear the MR barrel likes AE 55gr, I have one waiting for an ATRS receiver set and have lots of that stuff sitting in the ammo closet.
Rifles look good gentlemen, I'm not sure I like the look of the slanted magwell but it's just cosmetic and definitely makes it look different than an AR.

Keep the pics and range reports coming :)
