Hi,

I am planning to shoot 300m with .308. What is Good (not very expensive) spotting scope for 300m shooting so I can see clear the target. Does anyone has good ( or bad ) experience with spotting scopes?

Thanks.

I have a 40x eyepiece in a Bushnell Sportview straight tube spotting scope. You will have difficulty seeing .30 cal bullet holes at any range unless you are willing to pay significant money.

For a moderate price this is supposed to be a good scope:

ht tp://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/289759-REG/Konus_7120_Konuspot_80_Spotting_Scope.html

It will actually ring in at $169 if you order it, with current exchange rate and shipping it will cost you about $250 C. I've heard that they are a very good scope for the money but haven't used one myself.

I have compared the Konus with my Kowa TSN-1 and would say the Konus is very good. A little less eye relief but almost as clear as the Kowa. At about 1/5 the price and 1/3 the weight of a Kowa they are worth having a look at.

The Konus 80 spot for the money is an excellent choice. Most days I can see bullet holes at 300 yards. Using the orange peel type targets I can see the splash at 400 yards and if the atmospherics are really good that same target at 500 yards. Mirage will be the big thing even with high end optics for 30 cl. holes beyond 300 yards.

I have a el-cheapo 12-36x spotting scope that cost me about $100 a few years ago. I have no problem seeing 6mm holes at 300 meters. The resolution is not great and a brighter view would be nice but for a cheap scope I'm happy.

Leupold 'Green Ring' optics

I would like to spend up to $400 can. What about Bushnell elite 70 - 20-60x70 ?

When our dollar was a lot closer to par with the USD, I brought up a Leupold Wind River® Sequoia 15-45×60 mm (model 54534) through eBay for just a little over 300CAD. Comes with tripod and hard case. It's been hunting with me in sub 0° weather with no fogging or other problems. There is a model a little cheaper if you don't want the angled eyepiece. 300m might be just about the far end of its usefulness.

Note: these are Leupold 'Green Ring' optics. The 'Gold Ring' ones are a bit dearer to the pocket book.

Check on eBay.ca for current pricing through some of the clearance houses.

All sounds great but like every Glass thread where people want to cheap out I say the same thing, Cheap glass is not good & Good glass is not cheap.
Why bother buying cheap glass, wait another, week, month, year or whatever it takes you to collect enough dollars to get some Quality Glass that you will appreciate so much more & one day can pass down to your Kids.
