Okay. I took a bunch of my old plastic mags that I would never willingly take into a fight and converted them into 5rd mags with the weight of loaded 30rd mags. The idea being realistic trg (I know there is no legal or realistic sit where I will be in a combat scene again with those kit). Just give me your opinion of O just wasted time and resources. Every time I explain what I have done I get a quizzical "why?" and now I'm doubting my logic.
Thanks from the looney-bin.

PAIN IN THE ASS. I took one of the 5rd mags and popped the rivets out. I made a quick tool that followed the profile of the follower and attached it with a nut to a long bolt. Clamped the bolt in a vise and cut the mag spg by about half and used it to compress the spring to an estimated point. I adjusted the bolt in the vise so that the bottom of the mag was flush and loaded 5 drill rd. From there it is a few minutes of trial and error until you have it right. After that came fitting a piece of wood under the follower (with tool removed) and a piece of steel cut to about the length of the tool. A little more adjusting of the wood block so that only the five drilll rounds would go in but the mag could still be loaded into a rfile with action fwd. Once all that was in place I weighed everything and added cut strips of steel to make it roughly .45kg (.98lbs), fastened the strips of steel to the block of steel using heavy duct tape (I know I should have used JB weld but I was getting pissed with the amount of time and ####ing about). I attached the bottom plate, confirmed good weight, loading, feeding and eJecting and appoxied the thing together. Once you have one done you have a template and the rest are a relative breeze. I may put in witness holes or just pin or rivet it if the law requires but they are permanently stopped at 5rds so I can't see an issue. I will see about getting pics if my description sucks but what do you think?

Yeah. Sounds like a pain in the ass. At least you had the common sense to leave the spring tension to "5 and a bit" rounds :D

Whats the intent on the weight? PT or weapons training or so they drop out quicker?

I guess it would make sense if you are LEO or Military and you want to train with your own personal gear. Or, I guess if you participate in competition in other countries where mag restrictions aren't an issue, I could see the need to get used to the weight.

For the rest of us mouth breathers it wouldn't make much practical sense, especially if they cost more.......unless you have a constant Zombie Apocalypse fantasies where you think WROL will ensue, and training with fully weighted mags make you sleep better at night.

Personally, as long as the mag is full size so I can manipulate it properly, I could care less what it weighs.

This is a good idea for accurate load carriage if you want a higher level of PT. I guess having the accurate weight when you index your mags will help with consistency, but your mags will also get lighter as you fire. Too each their own.
