Good Pistol Powder?

Hey guys...
I've reloaded a bit for rifle, and now that I'm about to get my ATT, I'll be starting some handgun reloading...


I will be loading: 9mm, .45, .38 special, and .357.

Is there one powder that would be good for all these calibers?

Just scored a good deal today too:

2500 .45 brass
950 9mm brass
550 .357 brass
500 .38 brass

and about 1400 lead round nose .45 projectiles......

Got all that for $150.... Hopefully a good deal.

So yea, I have a bit of loading to do! I currently only own the Lee reloading manual, which I haven't found to be the best...
Anyways, any advice on powder for the above would be appreciated.

$150.00 well spent.

I use titegroup. It's about $25.00 per pound and it performs almost as well as Bullseye. Better in 9mm I find.
 
I would hate to limit myself to only one powder, but if I had to do so my 'pick of the litter' would be Unique. Very versatile in it's application for both light and heavy loads.

For many years, my main choices in many handgun calibers were;
  • - Bullseye - For light target/'bullseye' shooting
  • - Unique - Moderate - heavy loads
  • - 2400 - Heavy loads
Lately it's changed somewhat to;
  • - Trail Boss - For light loads
  • - Unique - Moderate - heavy loads
  • - H110 - Heavy loads
However:redface:,I still have some Hercules 2400 'squirreled away' for "Elmer" nostalgia loads;):).

I asked which would be best, just due to funds (lack thereof!), and lack of availability....

Not going to find a better powder than Titegroup for the price. Everything else costs 40% more and barely outperforms it.
 
A Good pistol powder is a shotgun powder ------- "700X"
used a keg of it with no problems - .45, 9mm., .38 --cheap & easy to get .

I bought 8 lbs through a now defunct local store called "Backcountry Sports". Got a hell of a deal when they went t**s up. It's funny, the label misspells "handgun", wouldn't that make you a bit apprehensive about using it? LOL.
 
Haha, how very professional of them.

Oh well, I guess I'll keep looking. I've been curious to try Accurate powders since I first started reloading...
 
Titegroup will do everything you want to do, but I would choose something slower burning for .357 such as H110 or 2400.
 
Anyone ever ordered from Cabelas? I was on their website last night, and saw that they have some powders in stock... Wonder what their shipping would be like... ?

Also, is there anything different I need to do, when using the straight lead projectiles for pistol? As mentioned in my original post, I've only ever reloaded for rifle, and it's always been jacketed bullets....

The last three blown up guns that came through here were courtesy double charges with titegroup.
I personally like this powder, (Use it in my 40s) but be especially careful when loading it - a double charge is harder to catch with titegroup than many other powders.

For the OP - For just starting out - I'd recommend WW231/HP38 for everything except the magnum - and H110/WW296 for it.
