So, I have acquired a 308 & 30-06 and would like to know is there a powder that would work well for both cartridges. The 308 would be using a light bullet for coyote hunting and the 30-06 would be using a deer cartridge. Any idea on what I could use for both ?

Some powders I tested in 30.06

These are all worked up to max load with each powder shot at 100y Rem 700 BDL 30.06 22" barrel
Win Brass/preped
CCI benchrest Primers
Nosler 165gr Accubonds/ seated as per Nosler reloading Info.

NOTE+++ I would not shoot these loads in a old Leaver action like a 1895 win the show pressures with some of the powders like IMR 4895 + Imr 4350 Some of these powders could be tested again my shoulder has been bothering me expecialy Imr 4064 & 4350
Hope this may be of help

I've put together a few thousand 308 and 3006 rounds over the years. Both calibers in auto loading rifles (M1, BAR and Norinco M14) Tried most of the medium burners and found I got best accuracy with 150's in the 308 and 165's in 3006's using 4064. I've went through more than 30 lbs since 1980. The only downside is that because of grain size it doesn't meter as well as ball or short grain powders.

All of the previously listed ones (except H4350/RL22) are good choices, plus any other medium burn rate rifle powder like them.

(H4350/RL22 are not medium burn rate powders; cycbb486 was recommending them as a good .30-06 choice, not necessarily a good dual-use 308/30-06 powder.)

I guess that is the difference between those of us who use specific powders for a caliber versus a dual use powder. Yes it may not be 308 powder but I did mention that is what I use and will continue to use in my 30-06.
