Thanks for posting this!

Interesting read.... I did notice on his examples of real, deal WWII era USGI pistols.... the refinished Ithaca and Remington Rand. Both were "mix masters" in that they both had "GHD" inspected Colt mfg 1911A1 frames.

NAA.

Can we make a sticky of a thread from another forum? :D
It's just impossible to have someone of Bac's caliber on every forum, you know. His 1911 experience is as rich as... he is. :) He probably has the best 1911 collection in the world, no?

I have not read it yet, but can anyone answer this one? I read something different, that Browning was the first maker of the 1911 45, if you check out any of our stores above in Canada, (I'm still searching) that The ONLY Browning 1911's are offered in 22. Nothing as a 45.
Why is that?

What,s a good make of 1911 TO buy? First gun.

I have a Ruger SR1911 which I am very happy with. It is a reasonably priced solid basic 1911 in stainless. It is reliable and reasonably well built for a mass produced gun. Most of the typical 1911 weakness seem to have been fixed. It is not a hand built gun but it works well. I shoot it better than any of my other handguns even though I have put fewer rounds through it.
