Good Red Dot for M305

How many rounds do you have through that setup, and does it move at all?

I have many thousand rounds through several rifles set up with the ultimak rail and there is no movement at all. It clamps to the barrel with three steel half rings and has an additional recoil lug that bears on the operating rod guide. It is rock solid.

I currently don't run the aimpoint on my M1A style rifles anymore...I've changed over to leupold scout scopes but they're still stitting on those ultimak rails and hold zero just fine.

So how is your chinese micro holding up Uberfiend?

The sight itself works great, but the pictaninny rail mount won't stay on, screws won't reach. The LaRue style QD mount works good, I was just lookking for the low-ride option too. I'm gonna try and find some longer machine screws. No worries mate, I knew what I was getting into.

BTW, I will have a UTG M14 Tri-rail in the EE for $130 shipped brand new in box, unopened, sometime next week.
PM me, first..I'll Take It...

I don't wanna steal your thunder, but Questar sells those Tri-Rails for $119 new...

BTW, I noticed that a lot of you guys seem to be using shortened barrels. How are those treating you? I've already mentioned it in a different thread, I'm thinking about shortening mine, too.

Well,, I was at the range yesterday with my 18.5". It's got a Dlask muzzle brake. It was treating me quite well, but the guy that set up next to me decided to move to the opposite end of the firing line after my first five round group :runaway:

Brobee: What is your scout scope sighted in at? 200? Did you go to the scout scope because of suitability for the calibre, i.e., range? Or another intended use? Is Leupold lighter than the ML3? Do you co-witness the leupold? I am looking for something light under 125 yards like an Aimpoint T1 Micro? What do you think?

$119 x 5% = $5.59 = $124.59
Shipping to ON = $15
Shipping to BC = $15
etc.. = about $140.
It is new in box at $130. :D

Since taking the photograph I've had all my M14 tasked scout scopes fitted with Leupold's externally adjustable CDR. I'm zeroed at 200 and I've got a pretty good handle on the trajectory of my M14 load, so I just dial elevation for whatever additional elevation I need.

My experience is that the scout scope is not quite as fast as the red dot stuff, however my eyes are aging and I prefer (and shoot better at intermediate and longer range) with some magnification.

Co-witness does not really apply as the front sight is not on the same focal plane as the glass; consequently you can't see the front sight through the scope even though it is on the same plane as the irons.

The micro is way lighter than either, will co-witness with the irons, however I dislike the larger dot as well as it's lack of more traditional lens covers/bell housings (ie: I don't like the rubber as well as the exposed rear glass when the rubber is off). If all you ever shoot at though is less than 125 yards is will be by far the lightest.

Cheers,

Brobee

Wholesale sports in Nanaimo had the Bushnell Micro dots, and the Bushnell ACOG clones at my last visit.

I was very keen on one of the micros, until I played with it a bit. The dot is just too small for these old eyes to pick up smoothly, and the dot "smeared" into an out of round blob at some brightness settings.

So instead, I bought the NEW Gen 2 Bushnell "T" dot ACOG clone. Bigger, heavier, but so far I like it as it is VERY fast to pick up that crisp clean "T" reticle.

AR 15.com has athread on the Gen 1 version of these scopes, and aside form a large percentage of these scopes coming with the "T" reticle set off index at an angle from vertical, the reviews were mostly positive.

I had mine at the Victoria gunshow last weekend, installed as far forward as possible. the far forward mount, with both eyes open, works best for me for fast work.
as usual,

Hi Have a Bushnell Trophy knock off of the ACOG and I going to ditch it. It goes through batteries like crazy.

I picked it up on the way up to Pet for weekend shooting and will be replacing it with an Aimpoint now.

What about the Bushnell TRS-25? Any one have any experience? Obviously, an attempt at Bushnell to engage the Aimpoint T1 Micro albeit at a much lower price ($180 at Cabela's).

You can NOT beat a T-1 for a red dot. I have two, and think they are the cat's meow. I always found the larger Aimpoints to be honkin big, heavy, and so clumsy looking.

The M14 is already big and heavy - why add more with a freekin huge red dot optic?

M14's are known to be scope smashers - ANY cheap scope (and even some not so cheap ones) will not last long.

C-More's aren't even in the same universe as any Aimpoint. You really want a primary sight on a rifle to not even have click adjustments? You'd regret that quickly. The T-1 is ridiculously priced, but they hold value well if you need to resell it (or pay the CC bill for the purchase.. ;)), so you're in a better position than a cheaper sight already. The quality on an Aimpoint is superior in every way.

I've learned MANY things over the last many years here - buy cheap, buy at LEAST twice! Especially with optics!

This is my current favorite having considered the Bushnell, Tasco, Aimpoint and other Eotech models. I liked it because it uses 1 cr123 battery, it's short, it has a wider optical view window than an aimpoint (round vs square? I'll take square), it has 3 red dot settings, it has a housing design that protects the optics better IMO and it doesn't require a mount like a Comp ML3 (extra $$). Price is about $550.
