I just bought a Pietta 1873 Peacemaker chambered in .45 LC with a 4 3/4'' barrel length.

Anybody know a good place to get a holster?

I want one worn left side, right hand draw.

I have looked but can't find one I am interested.

Thanks.

Look for someone local who does custom leather work, and is familiar with holster rig fitment.

The gun should sit slightly behind your hip,
so you don't want a "one size fits all".

Ideally You will need your measurements taken.

Otherwise, I've seen some nice ones on eBay, you might find one that fit's okay.

Here's one I had custom made by a local guy a few years ago,
I found a few pictures of holster rigs that I liked and gave them to him so he could get an idea.

I didn't want one that was too fancy, but something that looked old.
I think it was based on one worn by John Wayne in one of his movies.

Cost me almost $300.00 if I remember.

If what you want is simple and bulletproof, I suggest you look at at Simply Rugged, perhaps a Cattleman, perhaps a Shootist, or perhaps an Eldorado.

IanOn: There are any number of sources. Your choice will depend on how much you're willing to spend. If you're just looking for a holster to wear on the range for plinking, you should be able to find one for $100...maybe even cheaper. A good quality, long lasting holster won't be cheap, though. So be prepared for sticker shock.

Simply Rugged, has already been mentioned. Very traditionally styled holsters, if that is your preference. Then there's Marstar . Several reasonably priced offerings listed. If you're looking for a Canadian-based custom leather maker, there's: Working Cowboy Leather (Chatham, ON). Another: Leather Works Canada. You might even be able to find something suitable, in Cabelas.

Most of the top leather makers though, are in the States. Mernickle has already been mentioned. Excellent quality. Then, there's El Paso Saddlery. Doc Noper. Kirkpatrick Leather. Tombstone Leather. Plus many others.

If making your own appeals, there are any number of tutorials on you tube, showing the process.

Just a short list, but enough to get you started.

IanOn: What sort of use do you plan for your gun/holster setup? Casual plinking at the range? Cowboy Action? There are a variety of choices available, depending on your needs. By the way, in what part of Ontario are you located? There may be cowboy action offered at a club near you. Talking to those folks is an excellent way to see what is available and may work for you. Regardless of your preference. Whether competitive, traditional, or something in between. Before you buy, try to look at all the options available. Worth considering.

Check with your range first, make sure they allow across draw a holster. Most do not because you will be drawing across another member standing in the range. If another member is on your left hand side you’re gonna be sleeping in with the pistol every time you draw.

Thanks.

First, make sure your range allows across draw a holster most do not. The reason is if someone is standing to your left when you draw you were sweet that person with your pistol.
