I am looking to scope my Swedish M1896 or maybe my Swiss K31 and would like to purchase a scope that can stand up to the recoil of up to .30 cal battle rifles. I only need to punch paper at the range. The goal is to have something that holds zero and is rugged. What would you use for guaranteed stability and durability?

scope for milsurp

Not enough information.

Are you going to drill and tap the receiver.

Are you going to use one of the mounts that doesn't require drilling and tapping? These are not always satisfactory and it won't matter how good your scope is as the mounts aren't stable enough to retain zero.

Good point. I would use a high-end scope mount for a K31 if extant. But I don't know what's out there in terms of high-end. I mean, people do scope their K-31s, right? I wear glasses, so I'm not able to squeeze 1" groups out of irons like some people.

Maybe the Swedish Mauser would be an easier choice. Scout mounts are available. That would necessitate the use of a scout scope, which would be okay. (If there's any non-invasive option to full-scope any of these, I'd be okay with that too.)

I guess the final option is to drill and tap a bubbaed Lee Enfield I have. I mean, the actions is not bubbaed but the stock has been heavily bubbaed. That counts as bubbaed, right? I'd only be modifying an already-bubbaed rifle...

Yes I have scoped my K31 with a St-Marie mount. It's excellent. No drilling or tapping needed. I'm using a $250 scope. A Bushnell 3200 10x Mildot.

Mines also aluminum. PM 'Diopter' on this site, as he organizes group buys of St. Marie products from time to time. That is who I got mine from - great guy.
