I am thinking of buying a Stoeger 200 Combo with a 24" slug barrel for deer in Southern Ontario. About 700.00 from Wholesale Sports. Does anyone know of something similar in value that is out there?

Remington 870 Express Super Mag combo. Comes with a 20" slug barrel chambered in 3", and a vent rib barrel chambered for 3 1/2". I bought one 3 years ago, and for just over $500 at Lebaron. Also bought a used one from a fellow CGN. Great shotguns.

That 2000 is a great gun. I owned one for awhile and it never skipped a beat. It felt good and swung nice even on fast birds. I think it would suit you well, but it's quite light and might beat you up a bit. The 870 is a good choice too, but they rattle a bit. A great do it all gun though. :)

I have an Rem 11-87 with a 28" barrel and a 21" rifled barrel, whcich works well and serves the purpose. Probably cost me around $1100, as I bought the barrel separate.

If you do a lot of bird hunting, the 2000 may be a better option, as the semi can be handy in the duck blind. The best value though is the 870 combo with 2 barrels, for ~$500...

I bought a Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag Combo - 22" rifled barrel, with cantilever scope mount and 24" turkey barrel. Will eat 2 3/4 up to 3 1/2" shells. Full camo - around $400 from Epps. I really like the gun and it hasn't let me down yet.

The Mossberg 835 Combo is the best value in the combo's...
3.5 inch chamber three barrels including a 24 inch rifled cantilever slug barrel.
Less expensive than the Remington as well as having more features and equal quality!
The best slug guns without question are the Benelli SBE II and the Beretta Extrema II KO. These guns are 1:28 twist with 24 inch length barrels... the Benelli has the barrel fixed to the reciever and the Beretta uses an internal receiver sleeve with a cantilever mount. I have not found one slug gun that will shoot tighter groups than these two slug guns.
I have shot them all.

Anything like that 835 combo that only takes 2 3/4 and 3"? I'm looking for a turkey/deer gun but have no use for 3.5" shells and would prefer better feeding/reliability.

I second that choice - took a deer with the rifled slug barrel this fall and was laughing - about 30+yards and put the slug through the left eye and out the base of the skull;)

That's about all I ask from any gun.

I have to agree, since buying my SBE1 a few years ago with 24 inch barrel.
Never saw such tight groups at 100 yds, and thats with a rifled choke tube using Winchester foster type slugs only.

Those tight groups were unimaginable with my other shotguns.

The Stoeger 2000 may be equally accurate seeing as they're made by or owned by Benelli.

Best of luck...:)

Hey 7mmLefty
What typr of rifled choke tube were you using in the benelli?

One thing to keep in mind is that the deer barrel on the Stoeger 2000 is NOT rifled. Right now it is almost impossible to find a rifled barrel for the 2000 (some places have them listed, but good luck getting one). If you are going to be shooting deer under75 yards you should be able to get satisfactory accuracy from the smooth bore.

About the recoil, the 870 kicks harder than the 2000 and the 2000 is lighter. Mine weighs 7.2 lbs with the 28" barrel, 7.1 with the 24" VR barrel and 6.9 lbs with the 24" rifle sight barrel. I've shot steel from mine and I didn't find the recoil to be a distraction (and I'm not a big framed guy). If you are recoil sensitive get a limbsaver on it, supposed to make a world of difference.

If you end up buying the 2000 go to shotgun world and see what people are doing to break in their stoegers, it could be the difference between a good experience and a terrible one.

Mossberg 535ATR with 24'' rifled barrel and it is actually the best slug barrel on the market and mossberg makes the fully rifled barrels for remington as well.

If you want semi-auto then the mossberg 935

as for groups 3 shots with a 535 24'' rifled barrel fire sights 3 shots though 1 ragged hole at 100yds and I have witnesses group was just under 1.25''...this was with Winchester SPR123 sabot partition slugs.

mossberg uses a 1:36 twist rate

the best slug gun in my opinion is any gun with a Hastings rifled cantilever barrel. These barrels are top notch and they make a 26" rifled barrel that will shoot the 2000fps+ sabots the best.

Savage 210F "Slug Warrior"

The Savage 210 isn't for everybody, but I love it. It's a bolt action shotgun, available with a right-hand bolt only, and a fully rifled 24" barrel that takes 3" slugs. It is NOT a gun for anyone who can't handle a little kick! Out of the box the 210 has no recoil pad worth mentioning, just a hard rubber 1/4" pad. I personally can't shoot it without a Limbsaver pad on the stock, because one shot makes my shoulder go numb, and I'm not a small guy.
I currently have a "low-budget" Bushnell red-dot site with zero magnification on my 210, not exactly a long-range precision optic. With the red-dot I can put 3 slugs within 3" at 100 metres every time, and more often than not, all 3 holes are touching.
I don't know if "BIGREDD" has shot the 210, but I'm willing to put mine up against his Benelli or Berretta, and next time I'm in the area we can see eh? ;)
Another selling point for the 210 is price. If I remember correctly, I payed a bit less than $600, including taxes. The gun comes with a 1-piece base, and you can throw whatever rings & scope you want on it. I want to get a Nikon Slug hunter in time for next year's deer season to take over for the Bushnell.

Cheers

Tim

X2 for the savage 210.
My 870 and 1100 fully rifled slug guns will shoot about 3" @100yards and my Savage 210 will shoot 3" @200yards. I do not find the recoil nearly as bad as the 870 even with the crappy recoil pad. I have shot most slug guns and nothing is even close in accuracy.
Regards

IIRC, the 210 has an ER Shaw custom barrel on it...American's love the 210 as well, enough so that McMillan makes a custom stock for it...
