The Savage 210 isn't for everybody, but I love it. It's a bolt action shotgun, available with a right-hand bolt only, and a fully rifled 24" barrel that takes 3" slugs. It is NOT a gun for anyone who can't handle a little kick! Out of the box the 210 has no recoil pad worth mentioning, just a hard rubber 1/4" pad. I personally can't shoot it without a Limbsaver pad on the stock, because one shot makes my shoulder go numb, and I'm not a small guy.
I currently have a "low-budget" Bushnell red-dot site with zero magnification on my 210, not exactly a long-range precision optic. With the red-dot I can put 3 slugs within 3" at 100 metres every time, and more often than not, all 3 holes are touching.
I don't know if "BIGREDD" has shot the 210, but I'm willing to put mine up against his Benelli or Berretta, and next time I'm in the area we can see eh?
Another selling point for the 210 is price. If I remember correctly, I payed a bit less than $600, including taxes. The gun comes with a 1-piece base, and you can throw whatever rings & scope you want on it. I want to get a Nikon Slug hunter in time for next year's deer season to take over for the Bushnell.
Cheers
Tim
Yeah I have shot all the bolt action slugs guns that have ever been made.... as well as a lot of custom slug guns as well.
The twist rate on the Savage is an old school 1:35 twist which is acceptable for the slower slugs under 1600 fps... but they do not give the accuracy at long range especially with the newer 2000+ fps rifled slugs available today.
Even Remington has figured out that you need a 1:28 rate of twist to stabilize and get the peak efficiency out the modern slugs. They now offer a new slug gun with a 1:28 twist and a 25 inch barrel!
You wanna shoot against my Bennelli... you better get some more magnification on that boat anchor Tim... I start shooting at 150 and can hit minute of deer out to 200 with Core loct ultra's
