Hey there, I plan on applying for both my non-restricted and restricted PALS in about two and half years (unless they change the laws to allow sixteen year olds to possess firearms... and I don't see that happening any time soon) and am going to first purchase a Ruger 10/22. After that though, I don't know what sort of centerfire rifle I'd like. It would be for the range and for hunting, and I've been looking at the Ruger M77, the Remington 700SPS, and assorted Savage rifles.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Chambered 7.63x39, which means you can shoot for a very affordable price on a regular basis.

I'm looking at getting one just because its a bolt action chambered in 7.62 i don't expect great things from it but it will be fun to shoot.

I've seen them retail between 250$ used and 400$ new.

Thanks for the suggestions. (I also do plan on reloading)
In terms of hunting... I'm not sure.
I live in Victoria BC on Vancouver Island, and I don't really know what sort of game there is around here. I would probably be hunting deer but also grouse if they live around here.

I would suggest a Savage edge or Stevens 200 in .308 for deer and a .22 or pellet gun for the grouse. Learn how to clean and maintain an affordable rifle instead of learning on a $900 one.

Keep in mind if you buy used, get a good deal and don't damage the gun, you can use it for a little bit and sell it for about the same price less the shipping.

@SoBored
I do have experience with cleaning and maintaining a Ruger 10/22 (my grandfathers) and plan on buying and shooting with one of those for about six months before looking at buying a centre fire rifle for hunting. Thanks for the tip about buying used
