good tactical .22

im looking for a good tactical .22, just something to play with and maybe use for a bit of hunting, im really leaning toward the ruger sr-22 but was just wondering what else is out there and good quality, thanks.
 
remmington 597 vtr? i have a 597 target model and i love it, ive had nothing but problems with 10/22's ive had in the past, wont get another one. currently i have an issc scar mk22, i love the features it has, the look, the feel, the mags, etc.

i was on the remmington site and it said the 597 was disscontinued, i did rerally like that one though.

I don't own one, but have shot one, and they feel and shoot pretty good, IMO.
And they do look like the real thing.
Lately, I have heard more good things about them, than bad.
Going to try to pick up a used one, if I can find one at a reasonable price.

Problems with 10/22s? I don't hear that too often ... I got a Ruger SR-22, very solid rifle with almost all aluminum parts, unlike most of the other tactical rimfires. Only downsides is that its a bit heavy and they are not cheap to buy. Not had a jam in it, even with 25 round mags.

Plus with an SR-22 you can put any tactical accessory on it plus any 10/22 accessory.
 
I had a 10/22 and it was fun but i wanted something a little more "tactical" so i picked up an issc mk22. The gun is super fun and has a great feel but be prepared to tinker if you dont get the new generation or a lemon from the old. I enjoy working on my own firearms though so it was fine when i had to do a few mods to get it to perfection.
 
I just picked up a Savage 64 TR-SR. It's pretty fun. Put a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot on it, perfect for plinking :)

Biggest downside is you can only get 10 round mags...

EDIT: forgot to mention, it has a heavy barrel and only is 16.5" so it looks a bit stubby, so I put a DPMS/Miculek muzzle brake on it. Looks pretty cool and it now reaches the gun rests in my safe :)

I had the carry handle and flat top mossy. Shoots great but was a pain to clean. I upgraded to an SU-22. Fold in half, weights 4lbs. You can add a pistol grip AR stock if you want.
Shoots groups like the mossy just cleaning is a snap!
 
+1 on the SR-22. I have a Bushnell trophy XLT 3-9 on it and it is really fun to shoot. Quality is good. Ruger mags work great, as do 4 of 5 of the BC 25ers that I bought. Just gotta get that last one de-bugged.

Overall, really like it - ton of fun at 50 yds - was trying it out at 100 last week and it was still really consistent (6" drop at 100 from win 555 .22lr).

Yup. Excellent combo. 1000 rounds so far down the pipe, not one, single problem. Ever. Accurate, super tactical-looking, a blast to shoot, and absolutely accurate dimensions & feel of a G36...except the real G36 rattles, and the Nomad/Ruger doesn't.
 
I own an sr-22 rifle. Cost my wife 666 dollars....and 18 cents. It was accurate and reliable out of the box. But the 666 should have been the red flag. if you are not aware a tactical .22 is like lego for big people, you will want more pieces. In this case parts. I've changed things to make it nicer to shoot, put a lighter barrel, different grip, stock, added rails. the list goes on. The newer version i see now comes with sights. They look like magpuls in the picture. But it's heavy. I have removed the unnecessary rails and tacticool stuff. Changed the barrel for a tactical solutions barrel from wanstalls. It's much lighter then before, but hind sight is 20/20. I'd buy a ruger 10/22, a troy industries t22 stock, a tactical solutions barrel, volquartsen polished hammer/sear and extractor, auto bolt lock, dlask extended charging handle, tuffer buffer bolt buffer and then burn the receipts so my wife would never know how much i've spent on another 22. Regardless what you buy they're a lot of fun.
