Good trap and skeet O/U?

I'll make a call on that 682 Gold sporting. Very dark wood. It doesn't hurt to look at some pictures (if its available). I'll also keep my ears to the ground.

thanks canuk, I took a look online, it's a great looking piece, from the pics it looks like nice wood grain. Quite dark, I like it.

I got a new question on the same subject.
What are the advantages and disadvantages to ported barrels?
I was looking at the Winchester 101 Sporting and noticed that it has ported barrels, is this a good or bad thing.
I'am kind of leaning towards Winchester guns since every one I pick up seems to fit perfectly.
At just a hair over $2000 the gun is very appealing.

The Idea behind barrel porting is that it reduces barrel jump and recoil.but it also seems to increase the report from the gun.

What do you mean it increases the report from the gun
is it worth it or it just one of those things that gun makers are trying to make money on, I noticed Beretta doesn't port but Browning does.

It make the gun louder not really noticable to the person shooting the gun but to by standers.

I have tested porting in the past by swapping identical bbls with and without porting.

the different is noticeable. There is significantly lessmuzzle jump with ported barrels. Is it worth it? Well it's all personal preference.

In international skeet, porting is legal and actually the worlds best shooters are split. some do and some dont have porting. Probably more dont. You get used to what you have. You will however, likely piss off the guy next to you if you are shooting trap. I think that' where the noise is most noticeable.

The Randy Wakeman website says that ports on a shotgun barrel do nothing.

Maybe not for recoil... and it might be dependent of who does it but but for muzzle rise I measured that Magna-Porting does. We've actually measured it. The jump is quick and easily manageable. I did consider getting briley porting on my skeet barrels but decided to save my money. My 32" sporting barrels came with briley porting. It shoots pretty flat but I don't have an equivalent non-ported barrel to compare to.

Get your self a pack of pipe cleaners at the local smoke shop .they work very well.

Yup, that's a good one. But it's still a pain in the butt. Don't forget to clean the inside of the barrel after doing it either... My BT-99 is ported and sometimes I wonder if there is any gain.

for a bt99 i moght say no. the main advantage (if considered an advantage) is a flatter gun to assist in followup shots.

not sure it is speeding you up any with a single shot... LOL..

Personally i decided it wasnt worth paying for (put the $$$ into a better gun) but was a decent addition if the gun comes with it.

hey guys, I think I am gonna go with the Citori White Lightning, out of all the Citori, Beretta and Winchester that I have handled and shouldered, That one just feels the best, its a tough call because it is pretty much the same as the Citori just a little tighter.
I also decided it will be my skeet, double trap and sporting clay gun.
at $1800 its a good value and I hear nothing but good thing from the people that have them.
I am gonna stick with my Winchester SXP for single trap for now unless I go for a dedicated trap gun.

The White Lightning is just a Citori Lightning with a silver colored receiver.

Tighter:confused:

The winchester 101 is tighter, and it's not that it's a lot tighter just that the lever has to travel farther before it will release.
I prefer the metallic coloured receiver over the blued one when it comes to over/under. I know it's a little bit more money but thats alright, it looks better to me.
