Could some of you please recommend some good trap guns for under $2500 (my absolute max)?
I think I am looking for something available in 30" and have not had much luck looking around in calgary (if you can actually get someone to give you the time of day at wholesale that doesnt mean they can help you find a gun!)

Thanks for the help!
Mike

If you are only going to shoot trap, why not consider a pump action, such as a Remington 870, with a 28 or 30" barrel? I think under 400.00? (correct me, I havent's shopped for a pump for a while).

Pumps are just fine for singles trap shooting. I can score just as well with mine as I do with my much more expensive o/u's. Then, in the meantime perhaps you can have a chance to try some different guns at the range, to see what fits, what swings, and what points well for you.

Then you can buy a more expensive shotgun later if you wish, but you will still have a very versatile and useful pump gun in the safe as well, for upland birds, ducks, geese, bears, goblins, or what-have-you.

Or, buy my Beretta 390 semi auto on the exchange.

Man $2500 , thats easy , Browning, Ruger, Winchester... I would look for the one that had the best work without the frilley stuff cause thats not what makes it shoot. There has been much work done on barrels these days to improve patterns etc.

Mikey....
I am a serious believer in gas autoloaders for trap.
You should be able to easily find a Remington 1100 trap, or better yet a Beretta 391 in your price range (or less!!).Actually you should be able to buy 2 - 1100 traps for around $2500.00
I have trap o/u's that are great, beautiful guns that shoot well, but find myself using my Beretta 390 Supertrap more than anything else.
I can truly say that there has never been a lost target that I could blame on the gun.
Reduced felt recoil is important.
Both Beretta and Remington are dependable and comfortable to shoot.
Parts are easily available in Canada for both.
Both come with Trap stocks.
Having imparted all that wisdom.....
Buy something you like, that shoots well for you.
Enjoy

I'd suggest a Beretta 391 Trap as well and get a shell catcher so you don't ding the shotgun of the guy next to you on the line.

I shoot a 391 as my back up sporting clays gun and shoot it every bit as well as my more expensive o/u.

A Beretta 686 E Trap will use up all of your budget, but it will last forever. The gun is a proper competition model with appropriate weight, and options such as an adjustable comb.

The clay target sports use up a lot of ammo, cleaning and maintaining a gas gun can be a real pain after a while. There is a reason why serious competitors use guns with two barrels. The durability and reliability can't be beat.

i think you have to decide on what action you want first, a semi, pump or o/u....

then you gotta try holding some of them for length/wieght/and how pointable the gun is for you, differs for everyone

Depending on what type of action is your preference, you wont go wrong with
any of the following:

Remington 870 "Classic Trap" ... about $ 900
Beretta A391 Urika Parallel Target ... about $ 1,400
Beretta 686E .... about $ 2,400

Man,if you're willing to fork over $2500 why don't you consider the used market and you'll be able to get something really nice. For that money you can pick up a good used BT99 for singles and handicap and a Citori Trap to shoot doubles with.If you're recoil sensative, give the 1100 Trap a consideration as well. It's what I've got for my 15 year old daughter to use.

I also would suggest a nice used BT99 or similar piece. Try and shoot as many different guns as you can so you find the pros and cons of each action, model, etc. Getting a gun that fits well or can be adjusted to fit well is just as important as getting the right gun

I shoot a Rem 3200 Special Trap O/U. Its an older gun but the balance on it is beautiful, the fit and finish are equal to guns 4 times the money. They are very similar to a Kreigoff K-32 or K-80. If you can find an updated one in good shape they are worth the money ($1300-$1600). My son shoots a Beretta 391 Trap . I'm in Ontario but bought my son his Beretta from Bashaw Sports in Bashaw Alberta. They had the best price on Beretta's I could find and service was excellent.

so i ended up going with the Browning Citori XT Trap Adj. Comb.- picked it up at wholesale here in calgary.
I have tried a citori before and loved it (an older one though, but I don't think they have changed that much).

I have one of these and have never regreted it for a moment. It shoots and fits like a dream all day long. It is built like a tank too, will last a lifetime.
Good choice.
