I'm looking to get a good trainer rifle for my nephew . He is showing quite an interest in hunting now , & eventually i'm gonna need someone to drag my a$$ to the woods :D .He's 7 now & there's another one right behind him . Any particular rifle's you guy's have had good experiences with ?

I bought a CZ Scout for my sons, now 12 and 9, it comes with a single shot adapter, so they learn not to waste ammo. You can then put 5 or 10 round clips in it when they get a little older. Very accurate little rifle, good for people of smaller stature, including women. I've taken the one I have and shot the staples out of the 25 yard targets my sons use. Great little rifle.

By him an air rifle. About $5 worth of pellets will last a whole weekend. You don't need a trip to a range to shoot it. Buy an inexpensive one with a wooded stock and cut it to fit him. Pop cans are cheap targets.

Agree with maynard - air rifle to start. You may have to shorten the buttstock.
In a year or two go for a youth sized .22. I highly recommend the Henry Mini-Bolt. Excellent little rifle in my experience.

Air rifle is probably the best solution but they run about the same price as most youth 22s i'v seen . Going to the range is not an issue just have to step outside . The only other inconvenience would be the cost of ammo .

My first rifle well actually my second*... was a Marlin 15yn. That was about 16 years ago that I got it and I still shoot it now. It is a youth size rifle but it is accurate and works nicely. Its a single shot which I feel is the best to learn with (so you don't learn to depend on your second shot) and just all around a nice gun. I haven't seen one around and I am not planning on getting rid of mine but I believe you can buy the updated 915YN which has a much nicer trigger system.

* My first rifle was a Browning Belgian Safari Bolt in .30-06 but I was 5 years old when my grandfather gave it to me so it wasn't useful to me for a few years after that.

There are so many old Cooey 39s out there you should be able to pick one up for around $50 or so. To start on an air rifle works too. Sell it after he gets into the 22 and buy ammo with it. Either is a real good starter and a lot of us on this site started out just that way.

Had a Cooey 60 I gave to my brother as a trainer :D . I was thinking something along the lines of a savage cub or cadet . Check for requiered LOP & buy the one that fits him . Seem's like a cheap hassle free solution . The air rifle is a good suggestion , but i'm set on a rimfire it will only come out under my supervision .
