Goodbye Aimpoint Micro! Hensoldt Military RSA Red Dots on sale for just $499!!

Hi TI, just wondering if these units are the polymer or aluminum ones? The Z-Point I believe is aluminum.. just wondering if these are the same.

The Hensoldt RSA Red Dots are built with high-impact polymer housings. Z-Point is not built to military specifications.

Does it cowitness with an Aimpoint or Eotech magnifier by any chance?

Not too sure

Got mine yesterday. Nice little unit. I ordered the rubber armour for it as well, but its on back order.

Now back to the point. When will there be a nice sale on the Hensoldt ZO 4X30 Combat Optic ??

Better than an aimpoint micro?

Mounted the RSA on the B&T low profile rail for the swiss arms and it co-witnessed perfectly with the diopter irons. Also, mounted on an AR with Troy BUIS used a ARMS#5 mount (3/4" riser) and it gave me a lower 1/3 co-witness. I can take some pics later.

Hey, for anyone looking at these units, I wanted to post my initial thoughts. First, Tactical Imports did a great job of shipping it quickly, and I got it fast, no complaints there.

The unit itself is very compact, seems well built and sturdy. I'll add the rubber armour later. The battery inside the unit when it arrived was 100% dead, and the unit would not power on, even in bright indoor lights. That concerned me, I was hoping the solar cell would run the unit even with a dead battery, but it would not at least in the conditions I had. They were compact flourescents, so its possible they don't generate enough solar power for the unit.

There was a fresh battery included in the package (only one was promised in the marketing, so given the one inside was dead that was great) I switched to that one, and it worked fine. When the unit powered on though, the automated brightness on the red dot was very low, the dot was barely visible. I was able to manually increase it and it works fine, but I'm wondering if the automatic brightness function also didn't like the compact flourescents. If that is the case, this function may not work at indoor ranges, nor would it be effective in an actual tactical environment when transitioning from outside to indoors with flourescent lighting. I'll be doing more testing of this issue later on to confirm my first impressions.

I haven't yet mounted this unit as it is for a build that isn't completed yet, but I wish these units had the slide lock feature for locking them in place on a rail. I'll be investigating if that can be purchased separately at the same time as the rubber armour. I can see the unit sliding on the rail if there is an impact of some sort without the slide lock.

You got a battery inside yours? Dead or not, that is a nice useless free bonus yay!

I received mine yesterday after work and tried it out. The brightness auto adjust did not work at all on mine and I had to manually raise the brightness. It was so low when I first turned it on that I thought my optic was not working and broken until I thought about it.

The solar does not seem to work indoors at all. I will have to try it at my outdoor range later.

Anyone know why there is or what the horizontal line across the rear lens with a dot in the middle of the optic?

Too bad the VGN magnifier is not around $650-750. Otherwise I would buy it and both would fit great for my SL8 conversion. Running an Aimpoint or Eotech magnifier with the RSA will need riser mount added. For now it will go on my Fab Defense KPOS.

same deal here.battery inside was dead when it came, new battery works fine though. I mounted it on my 12ga, looks great, sits nice and low.. doesnt like indoor lighting. the mounting system was a bit of a hassle, it didnt want to go on my AR, but went fine on the shotgun.

the case was funny, big empty case with 3 different cut outs, only item was the reddot(with a package that had spare battery, microfiber cloth, allen key for adjusting zero) all in all though great little sight, when you adjust the brightness its a solid clear dot. Its far nicer than my trijicon 24mm.

Not sure if ZO 4x30's will be reduced. These RSA sights are from a cancelled military order, the ZO 4x30's were not part of that. These are less expensive retail than cost on normally priced RSA sights.

Slide-lock has nothing to do with unit sliding on rail. The rail-stop is located at the bottom rear of the sight. As long as that is in place in a rail slot the RSA won't be going anywhere. Slide-lock is just the means of attachment. Instead of pushing a button, you have to slide a part forward and then push in, instead of just pushing in to attach.

.

Horizontal line across rear lens is normal and part of the sight.

As for the brightness we've actually found the units slightly too bright and often had to turn them down. Make sure there is nothing covering the sensor on the front when you turn it on (ie finger).

Also, battery needs to be in place to complete circuit. Solar won't run without battery.

Sorry about the bad pic, my camera is awful. The dot is mounted to a Classic Green with a B&T rail.

just trying to understand before i order one of these, thoses that have these in hand right now, are you saying they do not work in doors, under lights?
also if the batteries last 4-5 yrs and the ones in it is dead, does thet meen they have been sitting in a military lock up for 4-5 yrs or longer before they were canceled and returned?
does anyone have info one why the item was canceled?
I do like my T1 micro, but always looking for options and have another gun waiting for optics.

Has anyone noticed the condition of the foam in the case? these little optics have been sitting on a shelf for a long time. Great find tactical imports and great little optic for the price.

They work just fine indoors. one button does it all once you figure that out they are great, bright dot. I can't think of a reason not to order one. Yes have owned many aimpoints and trijicons.

I read it as. I got a dead battery. The florescent lights won;t charge up my SOLAR back-up.

If the battery is fine, the sight works. Florescent lights do not power ANY solar cell devices.

anyone got it mounted on a AR yet?
would love to see a pic of it on a flat top possibly with magpul or other sights next to it for a height comparison.

From what I can gather the polymer-bodied RSA-Ss were discontinued in the U.S. due to incompatibility with large caliber/high recoil applications? The Zeiss-branded, aluminum-bodied version is appropriate for all applications apparently.

"The Hensoldt version of this Zeiss reflex sight was designed with a polymer body for exclusive use on the NATO 223. It proved unsuitable for heavier recoiling calibers and magnum hand guns. Thus Zeiss has discontinued its distribution in the US and recommends the Zeiss Z-Point Item: 521767 as an alternative."

I was just about to order one but I'd like to use it on my 12ga as well as my .223 so not sure whether to **** or get off the pot here..?

It works just fine under florescent lights.

It sits a few mm's higher than my Aimpoint H-1, so I'm not sure what kind of monkeying around you'd have to do to get it to work with other magnifiers. Taking it out right now to try it on my Swiss.

Rumour originating from USA. RSA was stopped from being imported to USA due to poor sales. Hensoldt has explicity stated the RSA is "recoil-proof, shock-resistant, vibration-resistant and waterproof" and is still in full production.

Aside from that it makes no sense that the outer housings would make a difference. The Hensoldt versions are always built to higher, military standards over their commercial counterparts.

Well stated Tactical Imports. The Hensoldt line is the Military line of Zeiss, at one time not readily available to the general public. Another good example is the mounting system of their Sniper Rifle scopes. The Hensoldt line often does not use conventional rings as it is felt that they are not rugged enough for military applications.
