Gooey, Bunny-eared grease pots?

I got these two items, one each with my SKS and SVT. They're full of some kind of grease, maybe cosmoline?

Anyway, I just clean em the army way with gun oil/CLP and they work fine, but I'd like to know what I should use these for, if anything? Do my Red Rifles need grease somewhere?

i dont think they need grease maybe if you are shooting by -40, personally on the one from my cz858 i have fille it with hopes 9 in case a day i need to clean the rifle and i forget to bring the stuff
 
They are just full of cosmoline. It's an oil/solvent bottle as issued to the troops. Clean it up and put it on your knickknack shelf, not much point in using it unless you're into reenacting.
