Ok, maybe I'm a little slow catching on but I didn't know you could do this until last night when I was farting around with google earth......which admittedly, I've never really used too much. Anyway, went out for a stroll in the woods yesterday with the dog and turned on the gps for a couple of minutes just to see where I was. Here's a bit of tracklog from garmin's mapsource (topo canada):

When farting around in google earth last night I saw options to import tracks/logs etc from a garmin gps...tried it and was tickled:

This gave me a much better perspective of where I was in relation to everything else around me.....much better than garmins maps since clearings, trails etc are not on them.
I'm sure this is old news to alot of folks but hopefully there's a few out there as slow as I am and will find this useful. :)

(you can also go to street level and see 360 degree pics from street level of your street, house etc.....neat)

That is cool, allows a better perspective as to where you are.
I run Google earth in realtime on my Blackberry, at any point in the bush I can zoom in to my location and see details like small creeks, deer trails, hidden ponds and floods.
Now, you have to have cellular coverage to take advantage of it though, not an option for everyone.
I can't figure out how to get he data from my Garmin GPS to my computer?

Pretty cool but I am still hoping that someday a company makes the following:

A GPS unit that uses Google Earth as a back drop, combined with a internet access, powerful radio, cellular/sat phone, text that works anywhere in the world.

Just wait until you get really good with it... you can use google earth to make custom maps you can download to your gps (there are various steps and software, but it can be done).

I've created custom maps of my hunting areas to show the hardwood/swamps etc right on the GPS ;) ;) ;)

I use that feature alot as I continue too cut trails on my property. The ruler is a handy feature as I can figure out the best ways tocut the trails too get to the stands and clearings.I have marked out stuff on google earth and exported them to my gps.Only thing I don't like is the area where I google earth it has very poor and blurry description of the land,5 miles over it shows the lay of the land clear as day.
