Flutes are easy to work as the backpressure is built in but they are limited to only a few basic notes. If you are willing to put in the time to learn a short reed it is THE way to go,.Every sound a goose can make can be simulated on a short reed call. If you are looking to stick to around $30 or less I believe you will find the Buck Gardner Canada Hammer what you are looking for. It's priced last time I looked at around $29.99 and is easy blowing. It requires less air than some and very little hand manipulation. There is also the Knight and Hale Magnum Clucker for around $19.99. And if you know anyone near you who knows how to shave a reed and tune a call properly, then they can be lightened up very well and made even that much easier to blow.Personally my favorite call of all I have owned and I have owned lots is the Foiles Strait Meat Honker in Acrylic, yes they are up there in price but you get what you pay for and you can usually find all kinds of used ones on the various hunting boards for $100 or less and guts are easy to get for them should you break a reed etc. Just my opininon. Good luck in the coming season!
