Goose Hunting on the Cheap? Post ideas!

My 'Power washer' hoses them with BB shot . . . .:shotgun::shotgun:QUOTE]

I have a couple of those 'power washers' too:D

I have heard and read that the waterfowl hunting out your way is absolutely amazing.

Depends where in NB you are. Down near Saint John where I am, there are very few geese normally, but we make up for that with an extra month for sea duck hunting in February. Further up towards Fredericton has, I THINK, better duck hunting most of the year.

Back in PEI where I grew up I coulda killed dozens of geese by sitting on my roof with a shotgun every fall.

I only started duck hunting over here last year. It was one of the best moves I ever made. Now I'm hooked and want a semi auto shotgun and a layout boat and more decoys and time off work and.....

Maybe I shouldn't have started.

This is exactly it for us as well, show them a good time in hopes to recruit new hunters. They might not have the time a finances now but down the road they may.... Promoting our sport is what it is all about.

Look at my threads you'll see we still take out alot of newbies, but when the first question is how do I do this without spending any $$ it usually meant we wound up with one off those guys who only called when it was time to hunt, never pitched in a dime for gas or for any of the gifts for the farmers, never mind wouldnt contribute time to scouting or pitching in, just my .02 worth!

I'm still a new waterfowl hunter, kinda on a budget. Threads like this are great for those of us who don't have a grand or two sitting around to buy really good dekes and blinds, etc. All expensive stuff.
I promised myself last year I would buy a good new layadown blind this year, but it's not gonna happen. $500 worth of blind is too much, and if you buy junk, you get junk.Cheaper models aren't always the best value in the end, so I will wait till I can get quality. Ended up with two chunks of camo burlap instead. Hunting anyway, just cause you don't have big bucks in equipment, doesn't mean you should stay home and pout. Good posts on here, very informative.

And, oh the birds are a flyin' around here, gotta get out, maybe this weekend. It is, however, my better half's b-day on Saturday, and I could not convince her to let me slip the leash even if it is Alberta's Annual Provincial Hunting Day, but I had to try that angle. Oh well, maybe Sunday!

White heavy blanket @ value villagee-$ 4.99
Foam yoga mat @ value village-$3.99
Corn cobs/husks-free
Glue gun @ canadian tire-$9.99

Put them all together and you have a snowy field cammo layout blind on the cheap.

This might take the win for thread revival! 3 years!

Also be careful using white sheets and fabrics. A lot of them have UV brighteners in them that glow blue when wet. If you don't believe me, give one to your buddy to use, run out 40 yards to recover a goose and look back. You will be amazed! Don't ask me how I know!

If you can find an area to pass shoot it can be cheap and does not need decoys. In the past we have hid in willow bluffs on the edge of high banks by bodies of water. Wait till the birds go out to feed and if conditions are right they will fly low enough over you to get a shot when they return to the water.

At times it can be some great action but please check your local regs for legal areas to do this. The only expense is gun, shells, camo, and the cost of getting your butt there. ( Liscense don't hurt either )

+1 to this. I only started waterfowl hunting this year and this is the only thing I did for geese. Maybe you get less quantity wise than other ways but it sure is fun and addicting! And here in MB there's tons of them, I never came back from a hunt empty handed. I even bought a call on sale at cabela's but never even ended up using it there's so many! lol, guess I have all winter to practice.

The few time i've hunted geese we never had more than 2 floating decoys, and most of the time we didn't even have those. We just made sure we went to a pond that they were staying overnight at, and got there before they returned from feeding. Also my camo is just a cheep long sleeve shirt from wall mart with similar pants. I bought them over-sized so i could wear warmer clothes in layers under them. As for blinds we just stand among the shrubs and bushes. I did see an article on using bleach bottles to make decoys and might try that seeing as i'm currently to poor to buy any real ones
