Had a pea field lined up for a morning shoot this week. Found out a local father and son also had permission on the field. Instead of cutting them off, I contacted them and suggested we work together and get in on the same day. They agreed and we set it up. Got in Sat morning and set up 4 dozen dekes and made some very crude blinds in the unharvested strip of peas. Birds were all resident family groups and came in from all points of the compass. Several flocks worked well though it was a huge field that the geese were using all of - not concentrating in any one area. Picked up 15 by 8:00 AM.
Went home and cleaned my 5 up. One bag of 8 breasts for sausage, one pair of young goose breasts for BBQ, 3 bags of legs for braising, a bag of gizzards and hearts for gumbo (on the stove now), and a collander of livers for lunch.
Goose liver and onions. If you like liver and onions try it with goose livers. If you don't Oh Well.
Ate lunch, took a nap and then headed out with the boys to the march for an evening duck shoot. Picked up 2 BWT, 2 Gadwall, 2 Mallards, a hooded merganser, and another goose.
