Just loaded up some of these bad boys tonight for my H&R 500S&W. Should be a Blast:p

Beside a 22 Hornet and 223.

I have shot a few with my .450 marlin and they were stopped before they could charge. It is fairly effective but not as dramatic as the 7mm mag with 120gr Hornady ballistic tips, or the 220 swift with 52 grain hollow points.

I've shot many with the 45-70, while an effective charge stopper, it just doesn't have the velocity for expanding a gopher as a 220 grain bullet in a 375 H&H does!

Thats my worst fear, having a ground hog charge me. Thats why i carry a 7mm loaded with 120gr. v-max. Show stopper, and with something soft skinned like a skunk, you will need the above mentioned umbrella to protect yourself from body parts unknown.

A charging gopher is an exceedingly dangerous critter - I'd say worse than a bear and right up there with a rhino! Go for the round that provides the deepest wound path. lol

I'm having one made by a gunsmith. Not yet sure which round to have it chambered in. Any suggestions?:p

Holt crap JP!! Is that a real cartridge?

No,;) that's why I said I couldn't resist. Actually it's a cigarette holder. You pull up the bullet end and the fan spread of a pack of cigarettes comes out. A Christmas present from my days past as a smoker and from a friend, and a fellow smoker of those days past:D.

500 A-Square vs. gopher. 600 grain brass solid @2550fps rips though 1 foot of dirt, 2 inches of gopher, then drills in another 2_' of dirt on the other side.

Might want to get a larger cartridge boys. I hear gophers are some of the TOUGHEST skinned animals out there.

they are only dangerous in groups, get em alone and their not that tough. try to find one alone though is tough. full auto is the way to go.
