Gopher hunting in AB, any pointers?

Stop in at the RM office of the area you plan on going, get a previously mentioned map, while there ask about who would would want excess gophers taken care of. May just save you from showing up at a place like Roscoe's. Rural folk are usually very friendly and as mentioned a refreshing bribe goes a long ways as long as you save yours for after!!

Am from lower mainland BC.

BTW, what's a good time? May?
I would wish to go as close to BC as possible down south i suppose.

thanks for the info guys.

Any location by the area can you supply for me to start? AB is very new to me.

Mid April to about the end of May is usually the best time. They are out in numbers by then, but once June comes around, sometimes the longer grass makes gophers hard to see. You would find some good areas in the Pincher Creek area.

I find it's much more fun (sporting) to stalk them in long grass and do so where they are wary. They can be downright tricky to sneak up on and hard to spot.
Open field is good if you like carnage and are wanting to just clean them up.

You may be out an hour and shoot only half a dozen but it's more of a challenge and good practice of your stalking skills.

there is a gopher hunting compatition in cardston. It has tonnes of gophers. Shot over 200 last year at the contest and didnt even place. It is usually the weekend of the 15. MD of Cardston is full of gophers. The only place I have seen more was up by
Cochrane.
