it seems that gopher destruction is an appreciated thing in the prairies...not sure if the provincial rules concerning them are the same as in BC or not, so I thought I'd ask and see. according to the rules concerning them, they can only be shot if they're a danger/nuisance animal on your property. can you, with owner permission, go and shoot them here?

I've never done it myself, yet:D, but from what I can understand, you can but only on private property (with permission of course). A no-no on Crown land...

Are the actually Richardson Ground Squirrels in BC, or is the variety that you have there mostly the Columbian Ground Squirrel? What most of us prairie boys call gophers are the Richardson variety.

they're Columbian and they are Schedule B (shoot if a destructive nuisance) as are the Yellow Bellied Marmot...they're both recognized as a potential hazard on farmland.

If you can make connections with the right folks, Crown Land gophers are possible.

Gotta get a permit through the CO's. A friend was getting his permits for controlling the populations around a couple campsites, operated by Forestry, IIRC. Said that after the second day, all the close in ones would wise up, and he had to resort to the centerfire. :) He got paid wages for that, too.

Other than that, it's private land only, with permission.
