Gopher populations in southern Sask?

Last year i shot about a dozen in four trips to spots where I would routinely shoot 250 in an afternoon. I have seen very few.

There are pockets of hot spots within less than an hr of where I live .......a few friends ended up in a spot and ran out of ammo ...about 500 rds ....

I dont see gophers now like I did when I was a kid.

I think they will be kind of low in numbers again this year because when I looked out in some of the fields earlier, all I saw was water and I think that kills off alot before they ever start to get going.

Well its a good thing the gophers are thin as .22 ammo has gone up 100% in a few months....that being said they are around the Moose Jaw area...shot a few on my way to Prairie Guntraders today but they few and far between.

I think you should do your own scouting, each area will likely be different. Right where I live the numbers have been low and are starting to come back. But go 15 or 20 miles away and numbers have been good all along.

Ya i have done alot of scouting and every area is about 90% lower than it was five years ago. I have spotted extensively around Lumsden, Balgonie, Southey, Weyburn, Melville... I had some real honey holes and they are all dry now. I am yhinking further towards Manitoba or South. I have heard from americans that the prairie dog numbers are kow too. When i do find an infestation i will be warming up some barrels.

a while back I picked up a few of those steel gopher walking targets
told a buddy the gophers are so scarce I had to buy a few

I mostly blame the flooding for the low numbers
all the coyotes contribute as well

Went out for a ride today after trap shooting, north and south of town. Didn't see a single gopher, plenty of ducks and geese though and even saw a group of 6 pronghorn but no gophers. The .17 and I were both kind of sad
