Lots of snow here yet, was out looking for some new pastures, got some new locations. Went to one of my regular spots and got my first of the year.

I am up to 12 gophers and one cyote. I would post a picture but the first was shot with the 22-250 and there wasn't much to find.

Driving from calgary to lethbridge I saw ditches and fields with multiple gophers already.

Just finished loading 200 rounds of very quick .223 pills for use next weekend.

Was out yesterday at one of my regular spots. Snow is 80% gone, a few gophers out in the cold. Managed 5, need warmer temps for sure. The 452 Lux/ Mueller combo is sweet.

Looks like fun. Wish I could get in on it, but having trouble locating property to hunt on near Edmonton. Anybody with any connections willing to help out? Willing to travel as far south as Red Deer if need be. Have put out a few ad's on Kijiji but no dice so far.

Hunting with a 17 Hmr.

Willing to compensate land owners with a tims card or case of beer for the opportunity.

In Ontario, they're groundhogs like you first stated. And ya, they get big. I used to shoot just outside of Ottawa. A good hollow point 22 worked great.

Never heard groundhogs called gophers, but maybe that's just me. Sometimes I miss living in Sk and AB.

I use a 2506 with a 75gr vmax. Works amazing!
Many farmers around here call them gophers.
The wheat is just starting to come up so ill be out mistifying some groundhogs this week

^good point. I was tempted to correct you on that when you said it originally, but you're right..most farmers DO call them that. My wife calls them that too....when she's telling her friends what I do almost every Saturday through the spring/summer.

2506 eh? That should put them down alright. I almost got out for my first shoot yesterday, but I had family (from the US) pop-in unexpectedly. I have a new .204 R and a fresh box of reloads ready to go!
