Gophers have started appearing this week around my area so what better way to shake off winter's blues than grab the 10/22 and head out. They are not out in droves yet but I managed to shoot off a couple mags worth at them.

I was up the hill on Friday and wandered by Lac Le Juene to see what there was for water
visible.
Then wandered by the gubbmint campsite and just past the entrance is a cattle guard.
Furry tete was poking up and down there between the pipes.
Got me awll c'ited.

I was going to say, he's not using enough gun. With a .300 Mag, it takes a forensic expert to identify them. :)

Grizz

When I am in a "splatter" mood I bring my 22-250 along but lately I am really limiting my use of it as ammo is darned near impossible to get for it around here. She has been relegated to yotes only the past year to conserve ammo. :(

What is that stuff it is laying on spank. I seem to remember it seeing it here way way back but now it has like 5 -6 feet of snow still on it ;(
Nice job on the gopher. Christ we don't even have those to shoot down here let alone no Spring Turkey hunting
Cheers

I layed them out on a bag of raffia grass just to make it look like spring and for artistic composition as well of course!! ;)
With as much snow as you have this year it shouldn't be an issue to find a decent back stop for target shooting?!! :p

I noticed gophers out Saturday the 14th. Unheard of here! Finally got a chance yesterday to get out. Even with a 25km wind, I managed 19 gophers. Unfortunately, I was in such a hurry when the stars aligned, I left the house without my phone.
I will say that I, too, shot a few hundred rounds trying to get those 19. Couldn't get the wind doped or the range estimated. Oh, well, a couple of more trips will get that back.

One more reason I'm never going back home.

I just came back from shooting 14 gophers here in the Creston Valley on private land. Thats 14 more gophers than I shot last time I made a road trip to Saskatchewan. Three years ago we shot for 5 1/2 hours steady south of Gravelbourg, all the great spots have poison now. Great for farmers, not so good for shooters.

While numbers are down this year so far, I have still had some time this past week to get out while on leave and get a few. My total now is 36, but the fields have been pretty well cleaned up and the gophers are more skittish, making the shots further and the shooting more deliberate. Very few shots under 75 yds this year and most beyond that. Combined with this wind...
Anyway, this was one of 6 I shot yesterday. Hard to remember where they were shot and the holes get tricky, but I found this one. Unless, of course, you walked out to each one after the shot for a photograph. But then, you'd completely ruin the shooting with all that tramping around...
