I figure with all this warmth there has to be gophers starting to show around edmonton.
My only problem is I dont want to go alone, lol

So anyone want some company for when the gophers come out?

Still a little early for gophers. But I'm in the same boat, just itching to kill some of those furry critters.

With the warm spell I am hoping for an early season. The 22-250 has DUST on it dude :(

Even somewhere that me and a buddy could go shoot paper near edmonton without joining a club would be good right now :)

Heard that they are officially out in some areas..I know the ''Grizz Axxemann'' crew went in the Viking area...we'll be looking more south or west of the city for new spots..

Jeff, didn't you guys up in Edmonchuck get that snow dump we just got down south? I've got a foot of fresh snow in my yard, gophers are gonna have to wait just a weee bit longer.

On monday we got a slight dusting, but it didnt stick for more then a few moments. Its still 0 +/- 8 degrees so I dont think gophers are out yet, but melting goes on during the day for sure, esspecially with the sun out.

re

saw gophers out west of highway 2 on highway 13 on tuesday going fishing, so they are out but only from about 1-5pm is the peak time, im busy now and theres still snow in my gopher fields but if your in the same contradiction later lemme know and well go pound some gophers.

Sweet :)
and hell I am always up for someone to accompany gopher killing :)

Gophers? You're talkin' gophers? Nature's perfect targets? I'm only 7 hours west of Edmonton and it's still -16C & snowing. There's over 5 feet of snow on the ground here and no end in sight :( Time for a road trip perhaps?...;) :)

Damn, that sucks, there arent many gophers out yet, I have yet to see one, but I havent been looking either, the fields are clearing every day, and while at night it gets to -8 or so, during the day its +6 and then the sun, another week and I'll have to rake the dead grass from the backyard, already a few green spots.

I just wish I could get out and shoot anything right now. :(
Dont want to buy a range membership and only use it once or twice.
Dont know where the crown land is around here.

Sweet :)
I have a 22-250 set up, and I need a scope for my .223.
But as long as its not to hot out the 22-250 doesnt get that hot with Hornady V-max's

I'll bring a M700 BDL .17 Rem and an ADL M700 .223 if I can come and play too :) I'll even pack along a 10-22 for when quieter shooting is required :D And I'll pay for a few rounds of "refreshments" at the end of the days shoot ;)

I saw a couple gophers off calgary trail between edmonton and leduc on the weekend, but all the fields I looked at still had a bit too much snow, and were too flat with other roads on the other side to shoot anyways.

Finding the spot seems to be the hard part :O
Friend has a farm where its almost too perfect shoot from a ridge into a nice long rolling hill. But its damn near 3 hours away, and they still have lots of snow.
I wish there was some crown land around edmonton with gophers.

Ain't that the truth.
On a lighter note, I saw a couple of gophers heading from Leduc out to Stony Plain Saturday. The 1st one was right on the solid line in the middle of the road. He didn't even move has 2 oncoming cars passed by with him in the middle.
The 2nd one, just down the road from the first, was also in the middle of the road munching on a dead gopher which wasn't so lucky. Damn little cannibals.

hey give my brother an email. im not sure if he's a gunnut yet but he should be. his email is levandier.jd@forces.gc.ca. He was recently posted to edmonton and is dying to get out for a hunt but doesnt know anybody there...bonus is that his wife is still back in nb so he doesnt have time restraints...oh ya his name is joel

I was out at one of my fields a week ago. Shot about 5 gophers. There was still 2+ feet of snow out there. More should be comin up soon, and the snow seems to be disappearing fast
