Gophers in Sth Alberta, is it too early to tell

I noticed it is 9 degrees in Calgary today. The weather has been weird right across the country (and USA) this winter.

What is the snow coverage like in the fields in southern Alberta at this time. For you veterans, any idea what the spring thaw might be like, and what the gopher crop will be like this year?

Is it too early to tell?

Oh, and as an aside to this, what part of the country as the most gophers, and the best hunting access?

Is it southern Alberta (I was there last year and hard to imagine it better), or some part of Saskatchewan?
