As this 17 will be for shots over 100, I am having a hard time picking a scope. I have 4-16, 6-25, and 8-32. All with target hairs. Have lower hunting scopes but heavy cross hairs hide much of the gopher at range. Those that shoot the -17 Rem, what do you use? This will not be a walking around gun. Ty's AJ

I use a sightron big sky 4-12 with the dot reticle on my 17hmr for gophers. if you decide to shoot squirrels in the trees. The dot can be hard to pick up some times. Perfect for gophers in the pasture where there is lots of light to pick up the dot.

I think the 4-16 is all you need out to 200. I've shot them at 175 yards with my 4-12x and I had no problem seeing them. Scope was a Sightron S1. If your scope is better than that, you'd be in fine shape with that magnification range. Of the 3, that would be my choice. To bolster that, I'm not sure I'd want to lug around a 6-25 or 8-32 anyway.

I have a Bushnell DMR 3.5-21x50 on my Varmint rig...fantastic optic. Generous eye box, eye relif is perfect. Clairty is on par with my Swarovski Z5 and the best reticle in the industry. This is what Id put on a 17 rem.

Cheers!!
